The Department of Information Security and Digital Forensics in the Massry School of Business at the University at Albany (SUNY) is seeking two tenure-track Assistant Professors to complement a growing team of scholars in the field at the Massry School and the University. The positions will commence Fall 2025.

The Massry School of Business is AACSB accredited and offers a supportive environment for research with teaching loads and research support competitive with other major research universities. The University at Albany is a Carnegie 1 research university and is one of four research centers in the SUNY system. The University is located in the state capital, and the surrounding capital district area is a center for culture, entertainment, and outdoor recreation. New York City, Boston, and Montreal are all within 2-4 hours of Albany, and close by are the Berkshire, Catskill, and Adirondack Mountains and historic Saratoga Springs: areas famed for recreational, educational, and cultural opportunities.

The Information Security and Digital Forensics Program in the Massry School of Business is designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) and the University at Albany is designated as a National Center of Excellence in Research.

The Department has a diverse set of faculty that work on different areas of research, including, behavioral cybersecurity, cyber deception, artificial intelligence, connected vehicle security, and misinformation. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and sustain high-quality research with high potential for external funding. The Massry School has strong partnerships with NY State agencies and the new hire will be expected to help support initiatives for supporting the State in AI, cybersecurity, and other related fields. Successful candidates will increase the Department's teaching capacity at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

This is a 10-month appointment that allows for supplementary summer salary from research funding. The normal teaching load is two courses per semester for faculty who work with graduate students and who are research active (before course buyouts). We expect new faculty to strengthen our strengthen our undergraduate and graduate programs, and strengthen the University mission through: (i) teaching with distinction, (ii) maintaining a strong externally funded research program, (iii) effectively mentoring graduate students, and (iv) participating in, as necessary, service to the department, college, university and community. Participation in research, curriculum development, lab development, and teaching are expected.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A PhD in information systems, information science, business, computer science, cyber security, digital forensics, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering or other relevant field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/31/2025. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.

  • Applicants must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research achievement in the form of published peer-reviewed articles, proceedings, or conference presentations. Area of research should be the field of artificial intelligence, digital forensics, cyber operations (cyber intelligence), and/or cybersecurity.

  • Applicants must address their plan and ability to teach effectively undergraduate and graduate courses in varying modalities (in-person, online, and/or hybrid).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research or work experience in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) security or cyber operations security.

  • Experience in applying for and obtaining external funding for their research in Artificial Intelligence, Digital Forensics, Cybersecurity or other related area.

  • Preferred candidates will have experience teaching classes at the Undergradaute and Graduate level in information systems, information science, business, computer science, cyber security, digital forensics, computer, electrical or mechanical engineering or other relevant field.
