Responsibilities

Summary:

The Energy Sustainability & Infrastructure (ES&I) Analytics team is seeking an associate director with extensive proven experience driving the design of and working to develop advanced databases and models and performing advanced data analyses for

i. Electric utility franchise area-level and individual structure-level demand forecasting, distributed energy resource (DER) and EV targeting, decarbonization impact, adoption facilitation, adoption forecasting, grid load impact forecasting and probabilistic integrated grid planning ii. Natural gas utility decarbonization efforts focused on leak prediction and detection and targeting of “non-pipe alternatives” to replacing leaking pipes.

The ideal candidate will have experience and expertise in the following:

Application Areas:

  • Energy process and usage data mining

  • Residential and C&I energy usage modeling

  • End-user energy usage activity/behavior modeling

  • DER/electrification adoption decision modeling

  • Grid impact and performance modeling

  • Advanced Technology:

  • Advanced ML-based (e.g. Deep Learning convolution, recurrent, graph, etc.) data mining analyses and diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive model development

  • Non-structured data analysis (sensor data, image data, remote sensing data, etc.)

  • Systems analysis, modeling and optimization

  • Temporal/spatial hierarchical probabilistic analysis, forecasting, and reasoning

  • Integrated model development (fundamental engineering models, ML models, systems dynamics models, agent-based models, etc.)

  • Systems, Platform and Product/Service Development:

  • Fluency in development languages and data tools, such as Python, R, Git, Snowflake, Data Bricks, SQL/NoSQL databases, geospatial data stores, etc.

  • Cloud-based devops technology (e.g. microservices, containerization, orchestration, virtualization, etc.)

  • Benefit-cost analysis

  • Business case and proposal development and presentation

    This position will be part of a team supporting the design, development and delivery of innovative advanced platform-based data & analytics capabilities and solutions to address a wide variety of energy client needs

    Job Description/Responsibilities:

    Develop business cases and client proposals for the development and delivery of innovative advanced data and analytics capabilities to clients, lead technical workstreams on internal development efforts and client engagements; and produce and communicate deliverables for both internal and external clients. Common responsibilities include:

  • Drive the design of and working to develop advanced databases and models and performing advanced data analyses for

  • i. Electric utility franchise area-level and individual structure-level demand forecasting, distributed energy resource (DER) and EV targeting, decarbonization impact, adoption facilitation, adoption forecasting, grid load impact forecasting and probabilistic integrated grid planning

  • ii. Natural gas utility leak prediction and detection and targeting of “non-pipe alternatives” to replacing leaking pipes.

  • Interpret and communicate the implications of technical findings in these analyses to non-technical internal and external client audiences

  • Lead technical elements of report development, stakeholder presentations, and client requests

  • Organize tasks and schedules of self and technical team for delivering high quality, client-ready products, services and technical work

  • Collaborate across teams to problem-solve and provide content expertise to tailor solutions for individual clients

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree (PhD strongly preferred) in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience

  • 4-8 years of experience developing advanced building, C&I process and/or grid databases and models in the energy industry

  • 4-8 years of experience working with one or more DERs (e.g., energy efficiency, demand response, electric vehicles, electrification, solar, storage)

  • Thorough appreciation of what is needed in facilitating the unifying of business and advanced technology points of view with respect to solving major energy business problems

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written form with internal team members and external clients

  • Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to creatively problem solve and rapidly learn and then educate others of new modeling methodologies and data management concepts

  • Ability to assume ownership of technical workstreams in a client-facing role

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing work of individuals and teams

  • Experience with cloud-based and hybrid platform product/service development and delivery
