Position Summary:

The Clinical Documentation Improvement Supervisor plays a key role in facilitating success of the Clinical Documentation Integrity program by assisting in day-to-day oversight of the Clinical Documentation Integrity team. The Clinical Documentation Integrity Supervisor will work under the direction of the CDI Operations Manager and in collaboration with the clinical documentation integrity specialist (CDS), coding professionals, physicians and other clinicians to improve the overall quality, completeness and accuracy of clinical documentation to ensure the level of service rendered to all patients and the severity of illness is accurately coded.


  • Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the CDI team to ensure CDI metrics and goals are achieved.

  • Responsible for daily monitoring of CDI work assignments to ensure initial and follow-up reviews are completed within facility timeframe and prioritization expectations

  • Responsible for tracking and reporting CDI productivity to CDI Operations Manager and CDI team. In conjunction with the Quality and Education Manager, develops remediation plan for CDI team members not meeting productivity expectations.

  • Assists with answering questions related to clarifications and managing unanswered CDI clarifications per facility policy

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for CDI team

  • Assists with process workflow re-design to create efficiency in work output

  • Monitors CDI data entry into CDI application for accurate and timely reporting

  • Collaborates with CDI leadership in the development of CDI remediation plans for quality reviews

  • Collaborates with the Manger of Quality and Education, Manager of Operations, and CDI Supervisors in the development of CDI team education topics and presentations

  • Functions as a CDI liaison with coding department

  • Creates reports in CDI software as needed to aid in program monitoring and oversight

  • Assist in the CDI chart reconciliation process as needed

  • Provides necessary feedback for conflict resolution to CDI team

  • Performs quality audits for new hire CDI team members per facility quality review policy

  • Assists with developing a collaborative CDI team

  • Participates in interviews for CDI openings

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees

  • Assist with mid-year touch points and annual Performance Evaluations

  • Attend organization meetings as requested

  • Timesheet approval for Guidehouse employees

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing; BSN or bachelor’s degree in health-related field and/or master’s required OR

  • Graduation from accredited medical school; MD or DO required


  • CCDS or CDIP certification preferred

  • CCS preferred (exception, required by inpatient coder)


  • Minimum of five (5) years as a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist required. Minimum of five (5) years as an RN required OR minimum of five (5) years as a credentialed inpatient coder.

  • Prior management experience preferred

  • Advanced clinical expertise and extensive knowledge of complex disease processes with a broad clinical experience in an inpatient setting required.

  • A broad knowledge of the disease process, normal/abnormal findings and reasonable course of treatment, quality measures and risk management issues is essential.

  • Demonstrated competency in teaching/learning process, organizational skills and computer literacy required.

  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor is required.

  • Effectively organizes work priorities.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to resolve problems.

  • Demonstrates ability to handle multiple assignments and carry out work independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrates ability to develop collaborative relationships and promote teamwork with co-workers and other departments.

  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional development.

  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of PSI/HAC reporting guidelines.

  • Demonstrates strong understanding of achieving a congruent SOI/ROM for the patient’s story and outcomes.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must not be subject to employment restrictions from a former employer (such as a non-compete) that would prevent the candidate from performing the job responsibilities as described.

Candidates from Eastern Standard Time, Central Standard Time, and Pacific Standard Time Zones as well as candidates from Arizona, New Mexico and Utah will be considered for this position.
