Albany International Airport Facilities Maintenance Technician - SEASONAL in Albany, New York

POSITION: Facilities Maintenance Technician

This position follows all provisions of the UTU/SMART TD collective bargaining agreement.

REPORTS TO: Facilities Maintenance Manager

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

SUMMARY

Performs a wide variety of tasks involved in repairing and maintaining machinery, equipment, physical structures, and heating/air-conditioning/ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems in Airport facilities by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects facilities on a frequent basis to ensure the safe and efficient operations of airport facilities.

  • Assists Lead Facilities Worker in determining the nature of needed repairs.

  • Provides Lead Facilities Worker with lists of item requiring reorder or replacement.

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment;

  • checks machines for unusual sounds, leaks, or other malfunctions and discusses machine operation variations with supervisor or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine;

  • dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts;

  • cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery;

  • maintains heating/air-conditioning/ventilations and plumbing systems and related equipment and structures.

  • Performs industrial cleaning and shop keeping duties, light carpentry, painting, electrical and other facility maintenance tasks, as required.

  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as grinder, drill, power saws, planers, plumbing apparatus and various hand tools in accordance with safety rules and accepted operating practices;

  • inspects tools and equipment on regular basis to ensure operational safety;

  • attends various training sessions to acquire the skills necessary to operate all types of tools and equipment used.

  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.

  • Participates in Total Quality Management programs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);

  • one year building maintenance or related experience and/or training in the use of hand and power tools and equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANUGAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s license as a condition of employment.
