New York State Civil Service Fish and Wildlife Technician 1 (Seasonal) in Albany, New York

Minimum Qualifications

30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Course work or experiences in ecotoxicology, physiology and ecology in avian or terrestrial species are desirable. ## Duties Description The incumbent will work in the Bureau of Ecosystem Health (BEH) under the supervision of the Ecotoxicology Section Head. The incumbent will participate in planning and conducting field and laboratory ecotoxicology studies aimed to enhance understanding of the adverse effects from chemical contaminants and pesticides. Field work typically include environmental (water, sediment, etc.) and biota (invertebrates, fish, and other aquatic and terrestrial vertebrate species) sample collection and transfer for either chemical analysis or ecosystem health evaluation. Frequent visits (day trips or overnight travel) to study sites are often required during the field season. Laboratory work may include participation in conducting controlled toxicity testing on pesticides and toxic chemical contaminants, processing biota samples from field and laboratory studies, and experimental data recording. The incumbent is also be responsible for managing data records, assisting in data analyses, and preparing study reports. The incumbent will also provide support in other tasks conducted by the Ecotoxicology Section including risk assessment on new pesticide products. ## Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and/or work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment ending no later than 3/31/20. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to dates listed.
