About the Graduate Development Program
National Grid's ) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 8-week Orientation which gives you exposure to all part of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. National Grid is aiming for an in-person GDP experience for Summer 2021. However, we will continue to monitor the impacts of COVID-19 and will shift to a virtual program if necessary, in order to honor our commitment to our young talent pipeline.
Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position. Additionally, all Graduates will develop leadership skills through frequent development sessions and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid. You will meet amazing individuals, both within our organization and local communities and will be assigned a mentor who will provide guidance and insight to help you start and progress in your career.
The Associate Supervisor, under the general direction of the Manager and Senior Supervisors, will be responsible for assisting with the oversight of their assigned internal and/or external contract construction crews performing both maintenance and construction activities. They coordinate and monitor the daily activities of assigned internal crews and or contractors to assure high standards of safety, security, work quality and accuracy, environmental compliance, and assuring uninterrupted service is delivered to customers in a timely and professional manner, consistent with Company and regulatory requirements.
Support the Manager and Senior Supervisors in coordinating the daily activities of assigned internal crews and/or external contractors performing construction, maintenance and restoration work associated with electric utility Transmission, Distribution, Substation or Civil construction. Work in unison with other NationalGrid departments to ensure a seamless transition of work.
Monitor job progress, document crew activities and prepare reports.
Assure that high standards of safety, security and environmental compliance are consistently followed at assigned work locations.
Fully understand the assigned project scope and or contract work authorization details. Interface with others on the project to ensure job commitments are delivered on time and within budget.
Ensure safe and reliable construction and maintenance activities consistent with company, objectives and policies, in full compliance with existing and relevant emerging government codes and regulations.
Ensure company guidelines and procedures, standards, and environmental and safety regulations are consistently adhered to. Assure compliance to all applicable Federal, state, local and National Grid guidelines, laws and regulations.
Provide quality assurance that the work being performed is per National Grid specifications, standards and applicable contractual documents.
Work with other supervisors and departments to review engineering drawings, technical specifications. Survey site locations for constructability considerations, confirm proper permits and licenses are available prior to work start and attend project meetings as requested.
Document internal and or contract crew activities, prepare and present periodic oral and written update reports and verify the accuracy of contractor invoicing as required. This will include ensuring adherence to contract documents to completion and monitoring change orders and reasoning. Report on job progress utilizing a web-based reporting database.
Adhere to company operating procedures.
Ensure successful performance of assigned internal and or contract crews and help to encourage a "continuous improvement" field work environment within a performance based culture.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in managing a team with the ability to build effective, respectful, working relationships.
Coach, motivate and lead a team of operating and maintenance personnel and increase their capabilities.
Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene preferred
Graduated between May 2020 and June 2021
Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 1, 2021 or June 21, 2021
Valid driver's license
Proven leadership experience
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
