EY Internal Employee Investigator - Assistant Director in Albany, New York

The opportunity

As an Internal Employee Investigator, you will work as part of the centralized Employee Investigations Team (EIT) to conduct and manage employee relations investigations from start to finish. You will be responsible for addressing and resolving increasingly complex employee inquiries on a wide range of investigation topics covering varying degrees of risk and will partner closely with different stakeholders during various stages of the investigation. You will also provide consultation and guidance to Talent Consultants on employee relation matters that are not within scope for the EIT. There may also be opportunities to consult on the design and implementation of policies, processes, and trainings.

Your key responsibilities

You will handle, investigate and resolve employee relations issues that are complex, with moderate to high risk. You will also assess situations to determine risk, consult on mitigation, and escalate to appropriate parties (e.g. Talent, General Counsel Office (GCO), Quality & Risk Management (Q&RM), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), etc.) You will maintain and track all matters in a centralized database, follow documentation and reporting standards, and maintain confidentiality. In addition, you may conduct detailed reporting and analysis to look for trends, makes recommendations for employee trainings, awareness, communications and more.

Skills and attributes for success

You will have experiences interpreting highly sensitive data related to employee relations concerns and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality. You will have solid knowledge of HR law & practices and investigation/employee relations experiences. You will have experience preparing well written memos which may include investigation summary memos or other legal documents. You will have experience conducting interviews within the investigation or Human Resources space.

To qualify for this role, you must have

  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels within the firm; maintains professionalism and confidentiality

  • Solid project management and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent written communication skills, experience with legal writing a plus

  • Strong interviewing skills, investigative interviewing a plus

  • Ability to influence multiple constituents

  • Solid networking skills and the ability to build relationships

  • Works independently on recurring projects

  • Seeks guidance on increasingly complex employee issues or projects

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree preferred

  • 7+ years related work experience

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • May have Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) certification, but not required

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly learn the business of the firm

  • Solid understanding of internal practices and procedures
