Responsibilities
The Life Sciences Innovation team is a new group within the Guidehouse Life Sciences practice overseen by a board of partners and directors from the Global Life Sciences advisory business. The Innovation team is responsible for collecting, refining, and advancing innovative ideas into impactful solutions for Life Science clients. The innovation scope spans core life science functions (portfolio strategy, commercial excellence, market access, and medical affairs) as well as opportunities across Guidehouse’s Health verticals (public health, government/commercial payers, and provider).
Responsibilities:
The Life Sciences Innovation Director will occupy a unique position within the Life Science leadership team and be responsible for managing a “problem oriented” innovation process. The Innovation Director will be responsible for leading ideation and collaboration initiatives, evaluating and prioritizing solution concepts, developing business plans, pitching concepts to clients, and supporting teams in getting new solutions to market.
Specific responsibilities include:
Managing the Life Science Innovation Process
Manage the Life Sciences innovation process, which includes process refinements to maximize efficiency and yield
Lead teams in advancing ideas through the innovation process, which includes framing needs, developing MVPs, testing demand, and getting solutions to market
Build an innovation core team that is responsible for market analysis and solution development, including performance management responsibilities
Align Life Science efforts with corporate innovation processes
Leading Cross-Functional Teams and Collaboration Efforts
Manage cross-practice ideation and innovation campaigns
Coordinate with Life Science Account and Functional Leadership to understand client needs and support service line creation efforts
Develop and manage cross-functional teams (subject matter experts, account leads, digital/analytic experts, etc.) to vet opportunities and design solution concepts
Maximizing Client Impact and Facilitating Top/Bottom-Line Growth
Mold the innovation pipeline to ensure both client and internal objectives are being met
Support external client pitches and business development
Accountable for ensuring that innovation investments translate to top/bottom-line growth
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experiences:
Breadth of experience working across life science consulting functions, which include product & portfolio strategy, commercial strategy / launch excellence, pricing / market access, medical affairs, data / analytics
Attentive listening and interpersonal skills, including the ability to see situations from multiple perspectives
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify synergies / connections across different life science functions (e.g., clinical, commercial strategy, market access)
Visionary and creative thinking, including the inclination to question the status quo
Experience conducting market sizing and opportunity assessments
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a matrixed work environment
Ability to get up-to-speed quickly across markets, consulting techniques, data/analytic techniques, and therapeutic areas
Understanding of and ability to demonstrate effective brainstorming and innovation techniques
Experience selling professional services and/or products/subscription services is preferred
Qualifications
Qualifications:
A minimum of 7+ years of prior work experience in life science/healthcare management consulting, data/analytics, innovation, or engineering/product development
A minimum of 3+ years of management consulting experience is required
Prior leadership and management experience
Prior experience in an innovation management role
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required
Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred
Travel will range from 5% - 25% based on work demands.
