Park and Recreation Aides perform a wide variety of tasks, such as:

+ Mowing lawns and maintaining landscaping

+ Cleaning facilities and grounds

+ Performing semi-skilled labor using power-driven mechanical equipment or working within one or more trades

Current hourly salaries for Park and Recreation Aides range from $13.20/hr. or $15.00/hr. (depending on minimum wage) to $21.24/hr. depending on the work location, the type of work available, and the experience of the employee. Many park regions also employ a limited number of seasonal trades persons or recreation program specialists. Most seasonal employees are employed between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but that can vary depending on the park or historic site.

The qualifications and operational needs for each seasonal position vary according to the specific duties and responsibilities associated with a particular seasonal assignment and are determined by facility managers after consultation with regional and central office personnel staff.
