New York State Civil Service Parks and Recreation Aide 7 (Seasonal) in Albany, New York

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have one year of satisfactory experience in maintenance, construction, landscaping or in business operation.* At least 6 months of such experience must be at the supervisory level. Must be at least 18 years of age and have and maintain a valid driver's license. * Experience in business operation must include responsibilities dealing with the public, customer service and daily financial reporting and processing. Preferred experience: Prior experience working on a trail crew and an associated degree or higher in forestry, biological/environmental sciences, natural resource management, or a related field. ## Duties Description This position will assist the Division of Lands and Forests with the coordination of the Trail Maintenance and Construction Program and seasonal trail work projects by working directly with staff and overseeing the work of volunteers. Primary duties include: * Working with Regional Lands and Forests field staff to develop work plans to address priority projects throughout the region. * Review trail maintenance and trail construction workplans, including field inspections of the trail work in the Regions. * Acting as a primary contact for volunteers looking to join to assist with trail projects. * Coordinate the volunteer program schedules and logistics with regional staff. * Assist with the development, implementation, and tracking of trail projects. This includes meeting with staff to discuss potential new trail projects, collaborating with agency partners, researching the feasibility for implementation of projects; and providing supervision, assistance and leadership of projects. * Other duties as assigned. Will be required to work independently and be self-motivated. Will also be required to work on a team and coordinate with upper-level staff within the agency and partnering with collegiate institutions. The ideal candidate will possess excellent computing skills, verbal and written skills, and be able to think critically to assess the varying needs of the program. ## Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 3/31/22. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed.
