New York State Civil Service Student Assistant in Albany, New York

Minimum Qualifications

This position is for current graduate students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates who possess the following minimum qualifications may apply:

1) Must have a bachelor’s or higher degree in a finance related field such as accounting, auditing or taxation; and 2) Must currently be enrolled in a graduate degree program at a NYS college or university; and 3) Must be in good academic standing.

NOTE: Qualifying Candidates must be available to work part-time, up to 18.75 hours during each semester and full-time, 37.5 hours over the summer between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

NOTE: At the start of each semester, the Student Assistant must provide appropriate documentation showing proof of enrollment, credit hours, etc. Failure to provide such information timely will result in the inability to maintain employment at HESC. ## Duties Description DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to:

1) Prepare, reconcile, report and review Federal Direct Loan consolidation overpayment/underpayment manifest processing for Federal Direct Loan Consolidation Servicers 2) Process and review HESC’s monthly Service Members Relief ACT monthly database match to capture all new and out-going Service members. Perform recalculations, financial adjustments and system updates to ensure that the financial and interest rate benefits are being applied to borrower accounts 3) Prepare Outside Collection Agency commission statements for HESC Vendors for Principal Accountant review and approval 4) Assist in processing and reviewing NSF and other adjustments utilizing office access databases and default collection systems 5) Oversee and assist in compiling accounts and performing financial adjustments for preparation of files to be transferred to Educational Credit Management Company under Bankruptcy Federal Regulations 6) Perform and review recalculations and adjustments on borrower accounts for Collections staff, Counsel’s staff and other areas of Operations to assist with litigated accounts and disputes 7) Serve as back-up for various mailbox inquiries 8) Other duties as assigned
