Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Valid NYS Drivers License Required. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators. *Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.

Duties Description FIRE SAFETY: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks in testing the University at Albany's Eyewash, Shower and Drench Hose stations, and Fire Hydrants. Ability to perform semi-skilled work in inspecting and testing the University at Albany's Emergency Lighting & Exit Sign Systems. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., capable of working at heights, both platform and ladders, up to 20 ft, ability to walk and climb stairs, ability to navigate MS Office Suite and Apple products and properly record time using AiM and record all work using proper ITM software. Valid NYS Driver's License. Ability to work alone as well as in a team environment. Shift/Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm.PAINT SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks to assist painters in such activities as preparing and cleaning surfaces prior to painting, applying paint while learning the trade, cleaning painting tools and equipment, unloading paint supplies, and cleaning work area; Ability to work at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts; May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts to accommodate workload; Ability to enter and retrieve work orders from a computerized maintenance management system; Valid NYS Driver's License required. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 6am-2:30pm.RESIDENCE HALL MAINTENANCE: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks; repair mortise locks, adjust interior doors/replace/ shim hinges as needed. Ability to replace electrical ballasts, switches, and receptacles. Ability to do plumbing repairs on sinks, toilets, and showers. Ability to replace floor and ceiling tiles, repair and replace window treatments, re-lamp, and repair lighting fixtures, and replace towel bars and hardware. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pmCARPENTRY SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks; ability to carry ladders and materials; work from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts; remove/install flooring, ceilings, windows, walls, and doors; ability to safely operate stationary power tools, table saw, wet saw, multiple hand power tools; plan and complete assignments with independence, ability to work overtime as required. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pmROOF SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled physical tasks including carrying ladders, tools, and materials. Remove, patch, and install brick, block, stone, and concrete for repairs. Identify and repair various roofing materials such as Epdm rubber, asphalt, shingles, and slate to keep them watertight. Use hand and power tools safely. Be aware of your surroundings and create a safe working environment. Shift/Hours: Monday thru Friday 5am to 130 pm.PLUMBING SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks in repairing, maintaining and installing plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, shower baths, commodes, drinking fountains, dishwashers, valves including pneumatic controls, gas and water meters, gas hot water heaters and other gas appliances, heating systems and controls, and various steam equipment used in kitchens and machine rooms, water pumps and water system equipment. Ability to identify and discusses problems with user, visually inspects the fixtures or equipment and uses appropriate test equipment such as pressure and vacuum gauges to determine cause and location of trouble. Ability to assemble materials, tools and equipment that are required to complete the work according to plans. Ability to read blue prints, plans and schematics. Valid NYS Drivers License Required. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pmEMPIRE COMMONS: Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled labor activities in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. Ability to climb ladders. Ability to work in areas of heat and cold, inside and out. Experience in appliance installation. Ability to trouble shoot heating and cooling equipment. Experience in repairing door locks, set up for door installations, and repair faulty hardware. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pmKEY SHOP: Ability to perform semiskilled, routine, repetitive maintenance, installation and repair activities on doors, door hardware, locks, hinges, door closures, handicap door operators, and other hardware using hand and power tools applicable to the trade; track time and materials and enter detailed summary of work performed using a computerized maintenance systems; ability to climb ladders and work from heights (ladders and aerial platforms); lift medium to heavy loads; ability and willingness to work overtime as requested (including campus emergencies or snow removal situations) required; Valid NYS Driver's License required. Shift / Hours: Days Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pmSIGN SHOP: Ability to perform semi-skilled labor activities including covering graffiti and hanging signs and stickers. Assist in sign making. Shift / Hours: Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm
