Reporting to the RPED Project Director for the U.S. Department of Education Rural Postsecondary & Economic Development Grant at Alfred State College, the Pathways Coordinator will:

Assist with work related to this 4-year grant designed to increase career exploration, and college preparation opportunities for middle and high school students from rural schools, boost college retention, performance, graduation, and post completion employment for the target population of students from rural secondary school s across the western and southern tier regions of New York. The award period is January 2024- December 2027.

The Pathways Coordinator responsibilities include, working with regional Career and Technical High Schools (BOCES) and technology teachers developing faculty relationships to build student connections on the school of Applied Tech (SAT) campus. The Pathways Coordinator will collaborate with local school districts and BOCES to encourage career exploration and college prep activities and aid with coordination of experiential learning days with ASC faculty and staff. The Pathways Coordinator will assist with mobile learning lab development and school visit usage. They will help with the development of career exploration programs designed to engage middle and high school students, including the creation of a Middle School summer program. The Pathways Coordinator will build relationships with students and parents at ASC Orientation events, open houses, and function as an informal advisor to first-year rural students when accepted and transitioning to ASC, offering help to rural students including financial aid planning and obtaining employment on the ASC campus. The Pathways coordinator will arrange for rural students to be prepared for interviews and aid with resume building in conjunction with ASC Career Development staff. The Pathways Coordinator will be a champion of the 'Stay for 4' champaign and will help with development of PLA's (Prior Learning Assessments) for students entering associate or bachelor's completion degrees. The Pathways Coordinator will assist with planning a Rural Educators program at ASC and attend the Rural Educators Academy.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree required, Masters preferred.

  • 2-5 years' experience in K-12 schools or districts, higher education, or workforce development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with rural and at-risk populations.
  • Broad education knowledge including use of effective student success strategies.
