Alfred University Summer Reading/Writing Instructor in Alfred, New York

Opportunity Programs seeks a summer job for a Reading/Writing instructor from 7/14/23-8/12/23. This instructor must be able to think creatively while also being detail-oriented and organized. They need to be able to synthesize information from many different sources into a cohesive whole that is engaging and interesting for students.

WRITING INSTRUCTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop lesson plans, teach mechanics and creativity in writing, and teach reading.

  • Educate students in the basics of reading, writing, and reviewing poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction.

  • Assess student performance, adjust curriculum and create individual study plans, edit written essays.

  • Plan and implement educational goals and objectives.

  • Organize and run all classroom activities, including homework assignments and grading.

  • Modify curriculum to adjust to time constraints and student abilities.

  • Cover the principles and uses of rhetoric, as well as writing strategies across academic disciplines.

  • Work with a diverse student population.

  • Teach students through developmentally appropriate reading, writing, and study skill strategies to help them become college ready.

  • Guide students in use of proper grammar, spelling, college level vocabulary, and introduce and implement proper MLA and APA citation formats.

  • Speak about plagiarism in college.
