Aquatics Director, Summer Program
This position is dependent on the reopening status of our site in Altamont, NY.
Summary: Follows all regulations related to use of a pool, outlined by the New York State Department of Health for Children’s Camps. Responsible for oversight of all swimming activities that occur at the pool. Supervises 2-4 lifeguards and staff who have bather supervision responsibilities during swimming activities. Assesses the swimming ability of each camper. Implements camp safety plan for swimming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plans, develops and implements aquatics programs and coordinates staff assignments in the implementation of the program.
Assesses the swimming ability of each camper prior to allowing them to participate in aquatics activities.
Supervises aquatics staff including lifeguards.
Ensures that alternate water activities are planned for classrooms, in the event that the pool is closed.
Oversees the maintenance of the swimming pool.
Assures that the pool is in compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
Maintains required documentation for the New York State Department of Health, including buddy checks.
Troubleshoots mechanical and chemical systems and schedules maintenance and repairs when needed.
Directs staff, responsible for bather supervision, in the enforcement of safety rules and regulations.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long-range plans. Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.
Gathers information from teachers to determine students’ needs and how to increase program efficiency and effectiveness.

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent from a regionally accredited college or university with one to two years of experience and/or training; OR Bachelors degree from four-year college or university and minimum five years experience or related and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Email, word processing software.
Certificates and Licenses:
Hold all certifications required by the New York State Department of Health for Children’s Camps for “Camp Aquatics Director” and “Progressive Swim Instructor”
Hold current certification as a Lifeguard with acceptable CPR and First Aid
Have successfully completed a training course in lifeguard supervision and management
NYS Teacher Certification; preferred area of certification: Physical Education
Supervises 2-4 lifeguards.

Provide support to students in crisis through the use of behavioral support techniques, including the use of personal physical interventions.
A valid New York State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required. Must have daily access to their own vehicle and drive our students when the program requires it.
Required to complete, pass, and use CALM training, provided by the school, which includes de-escalation strategies and approved protective holds and movements for students.
