Bard College Residential Life and Community Coordinator in Annandale-On-Hudson, New York

Bard College BerlinResidential Life and Community CoordinatorThe Residential Life and Community Coordinator atBard College Berlin (https://berlin.bard.edu/) will help to build an intellectually driven, diverse and engaged campus life by assisting with programs and services within Residential Life & Housing and Student Life. They are responsible for creating and maintaining a supportive educational environment, which promotes students’ individual growth, community responsibility, and academic achievement. Through their work, the RLC supports the academic philosophy inherent in liberal arts education at a small college with a vibrant, dynamic student population. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Residential Life and Housing and the

Head of Student Life.

Duties would include:

  • Programming Support- leading Student Life campus programming, including:

  • Supporting Residential Assistant programming: tracking programming requirements, providing support to RAs in planning and executing programs in the residence halls, developing ongoing training and professional development opportunities for RAs

  • Student Life programming: responsible for organizing monthly Student Life programming; facilitating Berlin Weekend at the beginning of each semester; organizing off-campus trips to explore Berlin; assisting with social events during fall and spring Orientation; assisting with spring and fall Welcome Receptions and Commencement

  • Collaborating with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office to support student-led programming initiatives

  • Partnering with the Civic Engagement Office to support student programs and initiatives

  • Supporting student clubs: organizing and running the annual Student Club Training, Involvement Fair, Club Registration processes, providing support for club funding applications; providing general club advising and mentorship; creating policies and procedures for student clubs, including manuals, data tracking tools, etc.

  • Conceptualization and development of skills workshops and other programming for students in designated areas

  • Supervision of the student Programming Assistant position

  • Residential Life and Housing

  • Managing and updating student room assignments in housing management software

  • In collaboration with the Director of Residential Life and Housing, coordinating move in and move outs at the start and end of each semester, including room checks and billing for damages

  • Overseeing student Housing Agreements

  • Updating and maintaining RA training, safety, and programming manuals

  • Co-leading semesterly RA training with Director of Residential Life and Housing

  • Coordinating semesterly health and safety inspections of residential rooms

  • Overseeing the roommate agreement process and ensuring each apartment completes an agreement at the start of the academic year and whenever a change to the apartment occupancy occurs

  • Managing Emotional Support Animal contracts

  • Leading annual information sessions about living on and off campus

  • Serve as the first-level student conduct officer

  • Summer Programs

  • Coordinate the Theater Intensive summer program in collaboration with colleagues at Bard College in Annandale

  • Work alongside the Director of Residential Life & Housing and the Head of Student Life to welcome external summer programs to BCB from late May-late July

  • Oversee the summer student move in and move out schedule

  • Supervise the student Summer Conference Assistants when Head of Student Life or Director of Residential Life & Housing are away

  • Provide emergency assistance when necessary

  • Community Support

  • Participate in the professional staff on call rotation (8-9 weeks per year)

  • Oversee the student vaccinations process, including following up with students who have not submitted their records

  • Maintain the weekly Student Announcements email, sharing announcements from students to other students

  • Oversee the posting and distribution of on-campus student jobs and provide assistance with hiring paperwork

  • Take notes at monthly Student Life Committee meetings and moderate discussions in the absence of the Head of Student Life

The RLC participates in the on-duty/on-call rotational emergency response and be available to respond to crises during scheduled evenings, weekends, and public holidays (8-9 weeks per year)

Position Requirements:

The successful candidates will -

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in higher education, student affairs, education, psychology, or related field

  • Have a liberal arts background or a strong interest in liberal arts

  • Demonstrate leadership roles as graduate/undergraduate students and/or invest themselves in their own college community

  • Show prior experience with student life and/or residential life (i.e. Residential Advisor, Freshman Counselor, Orientation Leader, Student Government, Peer Counselor)

  • Demonstrate respect for diversity and commitment to shaping an inclusive university community

  • Be flexible with work schedule as necessary including weekends and evenings

  • Have experience studying abroad, and with intercultural communication and mediation

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • EU work eligibility desirable

  • German language skills desirable

  • Master’s in higher education, student affairs, education, psychology, or related field

This is a 12 month, 40-hour a week position with an anticipated start date of 15 July 2024. The successful candidate will ideally live on-campus in a private 2-bedroom apartment. Recent BCB graduates from the last 5 years will not be eligible for this position.
