Position Summary:

The Breakfast/Lunch Program Coordinator will be directly responsible for coordinating and maintaining the breakfast and lunch programs at Our World Neighborhood Charter School ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the servery and school cafeteria. The Coordinator will be collaborating with a vendor to provide nutritious, appetizing meals for students, while meeting all NYSED, NYSNA, DOH regulations .

Essential Job Functions : 

  1. Oversee all aspects of the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs at Our World Neighborhood Charter School.

  2. Coordinate meal services with food service management company or vendor providing meal services 

  3. Provide applications for meal benefits to each household, collect applications and enter data into the system.(The goal is that all parents should submit an application whether or not the students eat school lunch.) 

  4. Establish a system for placing breakfast/lunch orders and ensure that all orders are received and logged using the FIFO system.

  5. Take meal counts at point of service, conduct a monthly edit of meal counts, and submit counts to the business office.

  6. Assist in the monitoring and review of breakfast and lunch program procedures in order to maintain compliance with the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program guidelines. 

  7. Collaborate with food vendors in the preparation of monthly menus making sure foods are portioned according to federal and state guidelines.

  8. Determine production quantities, compile and place food orders and supplies from vendors approved by OWNCS. 

  9. Request adequate quantities of food and complete daily production reports. 

  10. Put into operation accommodations for children with special dietary needs. 

  11. Follow safe and sanitary food handling procedures at all times. Ensure proper storage of all food in accordance with USDA requirements on a daily basis and before school breaks (summer, Christmas, and spring break)

  12. Ensure that food service equipment is maintained to meet the needs of the operation, with budgetary guidelines. 

  13. Implement and monitor safety policies and procedures. 

  14. Provides training to food services staff in Offer v/s Serve equal opportunity and non discriminatory. Ensures food handling and serving is performed by individuals who have completed an approved food safety training.

    15 . Responsible for supervising, coordinating and directing the work duties for all food service personnel.

    16 . Supervise the cleanliness of the server and the cafeteria. Coordinate with cleaning staff in the organization and cleanliness of the lunch room.

    17 . Organize students for orderly disposal of food waste trays and utensils.

  15. Supervise the utilization of computer technology in the operation of the cafeteria. 

  16. Maintain necessary files and records. 

    20 . Coordinate the use of foodservice facilities and equipment by staff and PTO.

  17. Help in obtaining bids and make recommendations regarding which bids/ proposals are in the overall best interest of the organization.

  18. Attend and participate in professional development opportunities.

  19. Assist with administrative duties as assigned.

  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills:

  • A New York City Food Handler's License is required.

  • Prior food service experience in a school setting is a plus.

  • Must be authorized to work at OWN Charter Schools through appropriate NYSED fingerprint clearance.

  • Must demonstrate competency in all areas of content responsibility and be computer literate.

    Must be able to:

  • Work on multiple projects and respond to requests and deadlines accurately and on time.

  • Make sound decisions within the parameters of authority.

  • Be courteous, professional, anaccurately, timely positive working relationship with faculty, staff, board members, parents, students, authorizer, and community.

    Disclosure :

    The anticipated base salary range for individuals interested in this position is based on our salary scale model.  The salary range is $43,000/yr. - $48,000/yr., depending on experience and credentials.
