HANAC, Inc. Outreach Specialist in Astoria, New York

HANAC, Inc. ? originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee ? is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.

The Outreach Specialist will provide education through online forums, presentations and local media to community members on the various medical assistance programs and provide education on preventive services.

Employment type: Seasonal Part-time

Hourly pay rate: $16.50.00 /hour

Hours per week: 15

Major Functions:

  • Provide education through forums, presentations and local media to community members on the various medical assistance programs and provide education on preventive services.

  • Assist applicants in navigating the public health care system.

  • Handle sensitive and personal information with an understanding and respect for client confidentiality.

  • Respond to telephone requests for information and following up with callers regarding their requests for information.

  • Act as a liaison between the clients and any city departments or service departments.

  • Act as a client representative at the Medicaid office for the elderly clients.

  • Conduct outreach and participate and coordinate workshops for the community.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Program Director

Qualifications:

  • Associate?s Degree from an accredited four-year university, or equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for educational requirement.

  • 1-2 years experience working in public outreach.

  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Must have demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook and be familiar with entering data into on-line systems.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, apply program guidelines, and follow procedures.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends required), position is part-time.

  • Ability to work both independently and with others to resolve issues and maintain composure and professionalism in an environment of changing and/or multiple priorities.

  • Bilingual is a plus.
