Inns of Aurora HVAC Facilities Technician in Aurora, New York

Position Purpose:

  • Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Technician oversees, executes, and is responsible for the care and maintenance of the facilities of the Inns of Aurora properties.

  • This position may require 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. shifts, as well as weekend shifts.


  • Evaluate and execute work activities assigned through proper techniques and in the use of tools, equipment and chemical applications

  • Perform repairs, service, preventative maintenance, and installation of all aspects of HVAC, kitchen equipment including refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, and overall facility equipment with a focus on quality, accuracy and timeliness

  • Perform seasonal system services including winterizing of exterior equipment, knowledge of snow melt loops, and glycol system maintenance

  • Verify that equipment is in safe and proper operating condition

  • Research and locate parts and materials necessary for repairs and inventory

  • Assist outside vendors when necessary to ensure timely, effective service and repairs

  • Assist all members within facilities and grounds department in areas of carpentry, painting, building repairs, and moving.

  • Assist in snow removal operations, snow melt and other applications

  • Perform other duties, as assigned

  • Maintain regular attendance


  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment used in various facilities maintenance activities including system diagnostics, maintenance and repair

  • HVAC systems including fuel oil and propane boilers, geothermal, heat pumps, fan coil units, chillers and cooling towers

  • Kitchen equipment including ovens, stoves, dish machines, refrigeration, and ventilation

  • Electrical (all phase) including wiring and motors

  • Plumbing including copper, iron, pvc, and cpv

  • Operation of hand tools, power tools and other assigned equipment

  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting with internal staff as well as outside vendors

  • Ability to perform facilities maintenance and repair work

  • Working knowledge of safe work practices, methods and procedures

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others

  • A friendly and professional work ethic and demeanor

  • Previous customer service experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and general computer literacy

  • Flexibility in scheduling, including night and weekend availability


  • Five years of maintenance experience


  • Graduation from standard high school or G.E.D. equivalent with trade and vocational school courses completed

  • Certification in trade (carpenter, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, related) preferred


  • Proven record of observing legal and defensive driving practices, as verified by the NYS Lens Program
