Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level park management, this position will perform a variety of administrative tasks related to recreational programming and event planning for the Long Island region.Duties include, but are not limited to:• Develop event plans and logistics for assigned events.• Prepare reports related to facility usage and inventory.• Plan, conduct, and evaluate recreation programs and events.• Organize recreational programs by determining community recreation needs, meeting with users and potential participants, evaluating public participation and comments, and recommending new and revised programs.• Assist community organizations in planning, scheduling, and conducting events. • Prepare and maintains event schedules. • Work closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met. • Oversee permanent and seasonal staff.• Advise park management when unusually large crowds are expected necessitating additional security and parking.• Assist with large scale events such as the Air Show, Fourth of July Fireworks, and the Summer and Winter Run Series. Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Either 1. three years of experience* in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus;* one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level;Or 2. an associate's or higher level degree or 60 college semester credit hours AND one year of supervisory experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus.A park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming.For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.*Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
