Job Title: Summer Odyssey Camp Counselor

Reports To: Camp Program Director

FLSA: Non-exempt – Seasonal/Temporary

Work Location: Northwest Area Family YMCA

Salary Range: $15.00/hour

Work Schedule: 25 hours/week, M-F varies between 7 am - 6 pm

Position Summary:

This position supports the mission and work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization. Under the direction of the Camp Program Director, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the supervision and organization of the assigned group’s daily activities, special events, and rainy day activities, such that the objectives of the YMCA will be met and all activities will be appropriate for campers ages 5 to 12 years old. The Camp Counselor provides leadership and assures the well-being for all, in line with YMCA of the USA guidelines and Association policies.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $15.00/hour, Seasonal Part-time Non-exempt

Experience, Education and Qualifications:

  • At least 16 years old. Candidates must be 18 years old to be considered for 40 hour/week positions.

  • Experience in recreation and/or education is helpful, while a proven desire to work with and be with kids is essential.

  • Skills in sports, crafts, group games, music/drama, nature study, water activities, and other camp-related topics are required.

  • CPR & First Aid certifications are preferred.

  • Competencies in program development.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this position.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, organizational skills, project management, time management, detail orientated.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle multiple demands simultaneously with minimal direction.

  • Possess and demonstrate excellent customer service, supervising, decision-making, problem solving team oriented, creative thinking and leadership skills.

  • Emotional maturity and ability to observe confidentiality.

  • Enjoyment of the outdoors.
