Main Function/Position Summary

As directed, assists Cook Iand Cook II in performing a variety of tasks concerned with the preparation andserving of food and beverages.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Works under the supervision of the Head Cook.The Food Service Worker will actindependently or assist in the performance of any and all duties necessary tokeep the facility in full operation.Will perform other duties as assigned.

  1. The duties listed below are not set forth for purposesof limiting the assignment of work.Theyshould not be construed as a complete list of the various duties normallyperformed by the individuals assigned to the Food Service department or thoseto be performed temporarily outside an employee’s normal line of work.

  2. Washes, peels, scrapes and cuts vegetables and fruits.

  3. Prepares simple salads and toast.

  4. Counts butter.Slicescakes and pies.

  5. Makes coffee, tea and other beverages.

  6. Dishes out portions of food on trays or plates, andpours beverages.

  7. Prepares dining and serving areas by setting upcounters, stands, and tables.

  8. Fills salt and pepper containers.

  9. Scrapes, washes and sorts dishes, mugs and sporks.Cleanskitchen equipment, pots and pans,counters and tables.

  10. Sweeps and mops floors.

  11. Will be assigned duties with selected detainees.

  12. Under direction will measure, stir, cut, grind, chop,and season ingredients according to recipes.

  13. Delivers food carts to detention areas and return cartsto kitchen.

  14. Prepares and maintains proper levels of box lunches.

  15. Draws required cooking utensils from kitchen storageareas.

  16. Loads and unloads delivery trucks as necessary.3.A)Workis completed in a priority established by supervision or facility need.All work willbe completed with a high degree of professionalism, quality and craftsmanship.B)Lulls inworkload are used to maintain a clean and orderly work area and to insureclerical tasks are up to date.Keeps upto date on departmental and facility safety standards and local codes andpolicies. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education: A high school diploma or GED isrequired.

Interrelationships:

Must have inter/intracommunication skills with employees and department heads.Must be able to follow Standard Codes ofConduct pertaining to interaction with detainee population.

Physical Effort:

May lift or push up to 50lbs.For extended periods of time may berequired to stand, walk, squat, kneel, sit, bend, reach and climb.

Working Conditions:

Work areas may include allareas of the facility.May be exposedto cleaning chemicals and solvents. Works in close proximity to steam or gasovens and grills that produce intense heat.

Other Requirements:

Must be able to passextensive background investigation and drug testing. Random drug testing willbe performed. May be required to cross train in various departments.
