Broome County Government Aging Service Representative in Binghamton, New York

HEAP Aging Service Representatives - The Aging Services Representative works in the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) department at the Office for Aging and performs a variety of duties to support the department. The Office for Aging HEAP Department processes HEAP applications for individuals who are 60 years or older and those who are collecting Social Security Disability and/or Supplemental Security Income.
The HEAP Aging Services Representative position is a part-time, seasonal position starting in early September for approximately 4-6 months, depending on workload and staffing. There are no guaranteed hours. Hours and duties for the Aging Service Representative will vary depending on the workload and needs of the department and will be continually evaluated by the HEAP Program Coordinator.
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
Reviewing HEAP applications and determining eligibility
Utilizing HEAP manual and other materials to determine HEAP eligibility
Adhering to required time frames for the HEAP program
Verifying receipt of required HEAP documentation and requesting missing documentation
Photocopying documents and mailing them to clients
Utilizing multiple online databases relevant to application review process
Speaking with clients by phone or in person to answer questions about eligibility, documentation requirements, completing the application, vendors, and other topics
Consulting with colleagues and supervisor for technical guidance, as needed
Performing other duties as assigned
Candidate requirements:
Minimum educational and experience qualifications include:
Completion of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a minimum of 12 credits in social work, psychology, sociology, gerontology or a closely-related field; OR
Graduation from a high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in community organization*, or Human Services*; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of A) and B).

Interest in working with older adults and people with disabilities
Ability to work a flexible, seasonal work schedule up to 30 hours per week (preferred availability: multiple days a week between 8.30am-4.30pm).
Strong computer skills (Email, Word, Excel)
