Cornell Cooperative Extension Community Educator - Binghamton, NY in Binghamton, New York
This position will serve as an After-School Program Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County in support of 4-H UNITY (Urban Neighborhoods Improved Through Youth) in Endicott. This program provides 4-H youth development, civic engagement and workforce development opportunities for students in both the Union-Endicott School District Middle School and High School. The 4-H UNITY Educator will work with the Project Director, Assistant Director and Program Coordinator to ensure successful implementation of the goals and objectives of the project by providing instruction, conducting trainings and providing supports and opportunities to youth in the program. This position will also provide instruction in UNITY’s summer employment program and other scheduled Association/program activities. This position will utilize a variety of delivery methods and utilize existing program resources. The 4-H Program Educator will assist in mentoring, training and developing community partners and other Cornell Cooperative Extension staff.

POSITION DETAILS:
This position is a full-time, non-exempt positions, 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $17.45. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree or Equivalent Education (High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of transferrable program/functional experience).
Experience relevant to the role of the position.
Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to meet all School Age Child Care (SACC) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) licensing requirements (i.e., Tuberculosis Test, physical exam, training requirements).
Ability to lift between 20 and 50 pounds.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity of subject matter appropriate to area of programming (4-H Youth Development).
Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and dependability.
Demonstrated ability to organize, implement, and teach informal educational programs.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.
Demonstrated ability to participate in professional team efforts.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery - 75%
Work to foster acceptance of the UNITY program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.
Utilize established program resources and materials in providing information and resources to program participants in established UNITY Programming.
Teach the existing educational program as defined in support of UNITY programming efforts.
Assist the UNITY Project Coordinator in the creation of lesson plans, as assigned.
Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and program staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.
Program Evaluation - 5%
Implement program evaluation as designed by the 4-H UNITY Program Evaluator.
Assist in the interaction with program participants to obtain evaluation data, aimed at evaluating effectiveness of trainings and community improvement projects.
Assist in the interpretation of evaluation data and in the communication of evaluation results to constituencies as requested.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Management - 5%
Assist with problem solving and resolving issues, as needed.
Assist the Supervisor with identifying, anticipating, and recommending for UNITY needs/supplies.
Coordination/Operation - 10%
Organize and coordinate program activities for assigned programming areas.
Provide input, as requested, for required project reports.
Coordinate monthly meetings for collaborators.
Participate in monthly project conference calls and maintain weekly communication with Project Director.
Assist with program evaluation to include: collecting evaluation and needs assessment forms from program participants for all assigned program areas as appropriate.
Under the direction of the UNITY Project Coordinator, coordinate and assist with special projects and outreach efforts as instructed.
Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
Coordinate and provide a variety of training and technical assistance (i.e., internet access, audio, equipment set up, etc.) related to implementing the Public Adventures curriculum, creating youth/adult partnerships, workforce prep, website development technology, and other youth community action related trainings.
This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%
Participate in required trainings.
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
