The Department of Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for the position of Lecturer of Arabic. This is a full-time position (up to three years) with possible renewal, beginning in the fall 2025 semester. The teaching load is three courses per semester with the option to teach Arabic literature/culture classes in English online during the winter and summer interterms for additional compensation.

Applicants should hold at least an MA in any Arabic Studies related field including language, linguistics, literature, translation, and foreign language education. Applicants holding a PhD are especially welcome. We seek candidates who have experience teaching Arabic as a second language at institutions of higher education and who possess native or near-native competence in Arabic and English. The Lecturer will be responsible for teaching language courses in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) at all levels using the "Al-Kitaab" series. Candidates who are experienced with technologies in language teaching, teaching a diverse student body, and teaching cultural and/or Arabic translation courses are desirable.

  • At least one year of experience and demonstrated success teaching Arabic as a second language to diverse students at the university level using the "Al-Kitaab" series.
