Security - Security is an essential and defining responsibility. As one of the few apartment buildings in the region that offer 24 hour, on-site security, it is a signature characteristic of our building. Members of the security staff not only ensure that those who enter the building do so for legitimate reason, but are also the "front-line" staff that greet residents, staff, visitors, and prospective future residents. Hence, the Security staff often serve as the ambassadors of the facility. And, when urgent situations occur, our Security staff are often the first contacted by residents and are often among the first to summon appropriate first responders.
CHARACTERISTICS OF POSITION
Hours per week: Part Time.
Daily Shifts: 1) 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
6 p.m. to 12 a.m.
12 a.m. to 6 a.m.
In and out times: As per shift.
Lunch: While on duty
Salaried or Hourly: Hourly. Part-time position.
Health Insurance: As defined by "Personnel Policies and Guidelines" part-time employees
are not eligible for health insurance.
Health: Sound physical and mental condition. Possesses mental and physical ability and skills to recognize, respond to, and cope with persons and/or situations that may pose a threat to the safety and/or security of Riverside Towers facilities and/or residents and/or guests.
Chain of Command: Reports directly to General Manager
Terms of Employment: Serves as an "at will" employee as defined in the corporations personnel
policy and defined in NY State Labor Law.
This position is: Non-exempt
Evaluation: Performance evaluation annually by the General Manager. Evaluation is on
or before anniversary date of employment.
Required education and experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Security training with
certificate preferred. Prior to employment, the corporation will conduct a criminal background check.
Other: Must possess current security guard certification. Expected to work on assigned days; may also be asked to fill in for others on an "as needed" basis. As the individual almost all residents and guests first meet when entering the building, security personnel must be welcoming in appearance, personable and communicate well with General Manager and staff and with residents and guests.
TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of Security include (but are not necessarily limited to):
Monitoring from the front desk via direct visual surveillance and/or via Closed Circuit
Television all entrances to the building to ensure the safety and security of all individuals who enter or leave the building through those entrances.
Monitoring directly the main lobby and, indirectly via Closed Circuit Television, the rear lobby
swimming pool, recreation room, and parking areas.
Keeping track of pool key and security box and having residents sign in before using pool.
Ensuring that all who seek to enter the building have a legitimate reason for doing so. When
there is any reasonable doubt about the identify of the person seeking entry, ask for name and seek adequate credentials to establish legitimacy of purpose for building entry.
Receiving and checking in all packages for residents; ensuring residents sign for packages.
Inform, as appropriate, residents when a guest/visitor arrives.
During snow season: calling Maintenance to arrange for removal or ice and/or snow at 5:00 a.m.
When there is a special event in the building, ensure that persons attending that event establish
legitimate reason for entry to building and have adequate identification to do so.
Other: Receive flower and related deliveries and inform residents appropriately. Provide
guidance to emergenc vehicles (ambulance, fire-apparatus).
