Academic Student Support Program Director
POSITION DETAILS
The Division of Academic Affairs at Hostos Community College of The City University of New York is seeking a dynamic and accomplished leader to serve as the CUNY Start Director at Hostos.
CUNY Start is an intensive pre-matriculation program that helps CUNY associate degree-seeking students with significant remedial needs increase their academic proficiency in English and/or in mathematics. CUNY Start aims to help students meet their proficiency milestones, matriculate at the college and do well in their first-year gateway courses to be better prepared to persist and meet their college goals at Hostos.
CUNY Start offers semester long, as well as shorter term programs, known as Math Start and English Start, throughout the year, including summer and winter sessions. Hostos CUNY Start also offers JumpStart, a program option that allows students to earn credits while enrolled in the program. All program models integrate comprehensive advisement seminars and practices and have a goal to holistically serve students. In addition to its outstanding student outcomes, CUNY Start is recognized for its carefully designed curriculum and pedagogy, ongoing professional development, and mentor-based training model.
Reporting to the Dean of Academic Affairs, the CUNY Start Director is an integral member of the Dean’s leadership team and works closely with the college and CUNY’s Central Office to ensure successful implementation of the CUNY Start program, including meeting program goals and outcomes and aligning the program with other developmental education efforts on campus. Duties include but are not limited to:
· Provide leadership and vision for the successful implementation of CUNY Start, including holistic recruitment to meet established targets and post-program matriculation goals.
· Supervise the CUNY Start team, including daily oversight of staff, participate in performance reviews, and communicate CUNY Start standard policies and program updates.
· Oversee the development and implementation of program offerings, guidelines, and related student and staff communications.
· Establish and maintain relationships with campus offices and academic departments to support recruitment to and from the college’s student support program areas (i.e., on Admissions, Testing, Financial Aid, Registrar, Academic Advisement ASAP and College Discovery etc.).
· Work closely with the CUNY Start University Director and Central Office leadership team to develop and to standardize program operations.
· Collaborate with the CUNY Start curriculum and professional development team (math, reading/writing and advisement) to support successful delivery of the curriculum and professional development of teachers and advisors consistent with the instructional model.
· Collect and track data that leads to informed decision making and provide analysis and reports related to enrollment, completion, matriculation, and gateway course taking.
· Ensure the registration of accurate campus data in the college and program data systems and share data and program outcomes with college leadership and program teams.
· Manage the program’s budgets; provide feedback on funding needs and participate in budget development and period budget adjustments.
· Actively participate in campus and University meetings and training activities.
· Represents CUNY Start at University and public forums.
· Essential duties require on-campus presence.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
The following qualifications are preferred:
Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field
Six years of program oversight in higher education setting
Four years experience supervising both teaching and non-teaching staff
Excellent leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies
Experience with curriculum development
Strong organization, project management, and communication skills
Excellent computer skills including data analysis and reporting with the aptitude to learn new systems
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
Availability to work evening and weekends

Collects data for, analyzes, and reports on activities and outcomes, recommending program improvements; writes proposals and reports to internal and external stakeholders
Directs all service operations, facilities, and staff
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$96,602 - $104,047; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
