NOTE: As a NYC contracted agency all positions at Good Shepherd Services fall under the NYC vaccine mandate. All employees, volunteers and interns must show proof of vaccination upon hire.

REPORTS TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, SBAAM

LOCATION: Bronx, NY

HOURS: Up to 15 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt, Summer (July-August)

The Film/Photography Specialist will teach and facilitate a youth centered program that incorporates the creation of making videos, PSA presentations, creative footage of the program, and other culminating student projects.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Instruct 2-3 classes per week.

  • Develop and/or follow a sequenced curriculum based on students’ interest. Curriculum should promote creativity, self-expression, opportunity for mastery, and emotional and professional growth.

  • Integrate lessons enriched with literacy, history and other related academic subjects when applicable.

  • Plan and prepare two PSA Videos, minimum of 1 min long.

  • Provide basic hands-on knowledge of camera operation, both video and photography.

  • Ensure students will be prepared and able to illustrate what they learned in two culminating projects.

  • Attends all staff meetings and staff development trainings, as specified.

  • Foster a youth development, strength’s-based environment, with a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.

  • Responsible for the setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.

  • Guides program participants in examining choices, following directions, and becoming involved in program activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Experience working with youth.

  • Experience and/or training relevant to the position required.

  • Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
