NOTE: As a NYC contracted agency all positions at Good Shepherd Services fall under the NYC vaccine mandate. All employees, volunteers and interns must show proof of vaccination upon hire.

Reports To: Senior Program Director at Truman

Location: Bronx, NY

Hours: Up to 12 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt, (July - August)

Job Summary: The Activity Instructor in the Arts teaches and facilitates a youth centered class for the students of the Summer program

Major Duties:

• Create and facilitate workshops in facilitator’s art subject area. That can include but is not limited to Architecture, Claymation, Drawing, Design, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Videography

• Develop creative curriculum that promotes creativity, self-expression, mastery of skill, and emotional and professional growth.

• Field trips to related art subject encouraged.

• Responsible to retain a successful class through active and consistent engagement by creating a youth development, strength’s based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.

• Record daily attendance

• Attend and participate in staff meetings

• Document classes/workshop planning as required

• Prepare students to showcase work.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Some college and experience with adolescents preferred.

• Experience and/or training relevant to the position required.

• Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.

• Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
