Phipps Houses Assistant Teacher in Bronx, New York

DescriptionPhipps Neighborhoods is a 50-year-old multi-service nonprofit providing a comprehensive network of educational and work-readiness programs, as well as critical community resources to more than 10,000 children, teens and adults each year in targeted communities across the Bronx and Manhattan. These programs include Universal Pre-Kindergarten, after-school, summer camp, literacy and ESOL, HSED, college prep, work readiness, resident support, family programs and more.Position Summary:The Assistant Teacher shall assist the lead teacher in implementing a structured classroom on an ongoing basis. The Assistant teacher shall be responsible for aiding the lead teacher in the implementation of the daily schedule and routine, leading activities, ensuring the safety and security of students, and supervision of students at all times. The Assistant teacher shall develop nurturing relationships with the students within a context of consistency and structured routines. This role also includes, but is not limited to assisting with administrative/operational duties and covering the lunch breaks of staff. The assistant teacher is to attend trainings, workshops, and seminars as requested by the Program Director to meet childcare requirements. The assistant teacher is also expected to help lead the classroom temporarily in the event that a lead teacher is absent.Position Requirements: Candidates must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) as well as have the appropriate training in the field with 3 years prior experience.
