Position Summary: **The Community School Director is responsible for working specifically with the Principals, and other members of the School Leadership Team to ensure that the barriers to learning that may exist for each individual student are eliminated and/or significantly reduced. As an employee of Children’s Aid working at the Charles Drew Campus in partnership with the New Venture Community School IS 219 and Frederick Douglass Academy III, the Community School Director is directly responsible to the Deputy Director of the School Age Division overseeing community schools in the Bronx.

Essential Duties: **

  • Hire and supervise all staff responsible for the delivery of out-of-school time programming and other specialty services and projects as needed.

  • Assure the high-quality functioning of other community school programming including attendance improvement, resource coordination, family engagement, behavioral and family support services.

  • Assure community school programming is effectively carried out within the context of partnership and collaboration with the Deputy Director and Principals.

  • Lead Attendance Improvement initiative in direct partnership with school administration.

  • Support school culture-building as a leadership team member and member of the school community.

  • Form and maintain partnerships with community partners, agencies, and key stakeholders that enrich the school environment as well as provide services for children and families: mental health, afterschool, summer camps, arts, sports, health/dental, adult programs, mentoring, etc.

  • Facilitate positive communication between the principal and other leaders.

  • Work collaboratively with schools’ parent coordinators to increase parent involvement.

  • Develop and utilize systems to track programming progress and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and services that supports the school’s goals.

  • Represent the school in community meetings and events including but not limited to social-emotional initiatives, homelessness, community school improvement meetings, etc.

  • Work with Student Support Staff to identify and coordinate academic, socio-emotional and health resources for students and their families.

  • Develop a clear and data-driven, year-long plan for the coordination and delivery of services and supports to students that is built in collaboration with the stakeholders described above.

  • Foster positive and healthy relationships with each member of the school community.

  • Participate in on-going training and professional development provided by Children’s Aid.

  • Maintain regular communication with students’ parents/caregivers in order to support the school’s parent engagement initiatives.

  • Use the resources available at Children’s Aid to meet the needs of students on a daily basis.

  • Plan and deliver special school events.

  • Perform other duties as needed under the direction of the Community School Director or Children’s Aid Leadership

*Minimum Qualifications: *

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Child Psychology or related field required

  • 10 years of experience working with young people (in-school and/or out-of-school settings) in a fast-paced environment.

  • 7-10 years of supervisory experience in an Education or Youth Services industry.

  • Ability to effectively manage budget and implement program grant deliverables
