About Brilla Public Charter Schools
Brilla Public Charter Schools is a network of K-8th grade schools that currently serves nearly 1,800 students from Mott Haven, University Heights, and other neighborhoods in the Bronx. The network is growing from its current four elementary and two middle schools to five elementary and five middle schools educating some 4,000 students in the Bronx and Paterson, NJ. The Charter Management Organization (CMO) for Brilla Schools Network is Seton Education Partners, an organization inspired by the Catholic educational tradition, that also manages the Seton Teaching Fellows missionary program and El Camino, an after-school Catholic faith formation program. At the heart of the Seton educational mission is our dedication to help students become young men and women of good character and spirit who are prepared for excellence in high school, college, and beyond.
Brilla combines a Classical approach to education – an emphasis on an ennobling and content-rich curriculum, inductive inquiry-driven instruction, and virtue formation that fosters an encounter with Truth, Beauty, and Goodness – with co-teaching practices and individualized online instructional support. The Instructional Coach is a full-time leadership team member who supports teachers to align their instruction with the curricular and instructional vision of Brilla Schools and to attain school and network academic targets. Supervised by an Assistant Principal, the Instructional Coach serves as the content expert and planning authority for all of the math components in the school, ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment, high quality learning opportunities aligned to strategic priorities, and exceptional student performance and achievement across the content. Instructional Coaches develop the content knowledge and pedagogical techniques of teachers , ensuring that deep content knowledge and best instructional practice permeates the school (such as lesson plan internalization, assessment data, Blended Learning supplementation, and Intervention support). Instructional Coaches are sensitive to the interwoven relationship of academic and character formation and are attentive to ways to ensure mutual reinforcement of the intellectual and affective dimensions of learning. Instructional Coaches embrace the Classical approach to education and actively facilitate the adaptation of lesson plans and curricular resources to enrich the student encounter of Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.
This position requires a positive, flexible, solutions-oriented, organized, and reflective leader who can balance multiple roles and responsibilities with grace and virtue. Instructional Coaches work daily with teachers and in close collaboration with the Assistant Principal, Principal, and Brilla Network Academics Team to ensure that curricular materials are consistently adapted to meet the needs of teachers and the classroom . In addition to planning and coaching requirements, Instructional Coaches maintain materials inventories and requisitioning, attend regular content meetings, and actively deepen their own knowledge of content, standards, and Classical pedagogy. Brilla Instructional Coaches daily support teachers through active observation, live coaching and must have a deep appreciation for inductive, inquiry-driven, data-informed, student-engaged learning. They must offer as well as accept, implement, and seek feedback. They will manage multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities, while inspiring outstanding achievement in a joyful, vigorous, and collaborative work environment.
Core Competencies & Responsibilities
Brilla Instructional Coaches Set the Standard
Engage in daily classroom observations
Plan and direct teacher development meetings, and support implementation of action steps
Contribute to teachers’ reviews (at direction of Assistant Principal)
Assist in the planning and delivery of professional development exercises in matters of curriculum and pedagogy
Plan and direct team meetings for grade-level or content-area staff
Work closely with Assistant Principal and Instructional Leadership Team to:
Use assessment data to inform instruction and targeted intervention to achieve student academic goals;
analyze data in order to lead effective meetings based on daily student work samples; build grade level/content area action plans and materials; monitor grade-level progress against assessment cycle benchmarks.
Work with teachers to achieve network targets and school-wide goals in alignment with Brilla’s mission and professional evaluation rubric;
Provide dedicated, energetic, and creative support for teachers and instructional leaders to deliver the most rigorous and joyful academic experience for our students that leads to exceptional academic results;
Facilitate assessment cycles including scheduling, quality assurance of assessment materials, and teacher/student preparation.
Work with Assistant Principal and network schools team to adapt curricular materials, as needed
Facilitate purposeful, regular unit and lesson studies that deepen content knowledge and pedagogical awareness for planners and grade teams and guarantees excellence in execution
Develop, internalize, and model-teach rigorous curricula that adhere to national and state standards and align with Brilla’s student growth targets
Lead the school’s approach and implementation of test preparation and other internal assessments
Coach teachers to excellence in behavioral competencies and classroom management
Brilla Instructional Coaches Honor the Team
Foster and maintain productive, collaborative, and collegial working relationships with leaders, team members, staff members, parents, and community members.
Contribute to a positive school culture through attendance and active participation in Brilla-sponsored events.
Ensure and support consistent implementation of classroom management and responsiveness strategies.
Plan, facilitate, and attend regular, mission-critical programming including Instructional Coaches meetings, summer professional development sessions, data days, parent workshops, family conferences, and other exercises.
Maintain availability after school hours until 7:00 pm to address family questions or concerns when needed (cell phone stipend provided by school).
Perform other duties as assigned.

Brilla Instructional Coaches Make it Count (Coaching)
Facilitate engaging, purposeful coaching meetings with teachers.
Participate in central curriculum revision meetings and workshops to provide feedback and make active improvements to the curriculum and corresponding student materials.
Actively and regularly analyze student content work in order to improve the quality levels of student outputs.
Assist with and develop content scope and sequences aligned with the assessment calendar including but not limited to NWEA prep lessons and state exam testing materials and resources.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with and leading students & colleagues from all cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
Organize and manage time and commitments efficiently to maximize productivity and intentionality throughout the school day and school year.

Actively seek out opportunities to regularly collaborate and communicate with Instructional Coaches and liaisons across the network.
Regularly communicate and collaborate with other Instructional Coaches to ensure interdisciplinary alignment, student achievement, and pacing fidelity.

Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution (preferably in Math).
Possession of current elementary school teaching certification.
Teaching experience with evidence of consistent, exemplary student performance.
Special education experience, certification, or licensure (preferred).
Appreciation for Classical liberal arts education; direct experience with Classical liberal arts instruction (preferred).
Evidence of outstanding student growth and achievement and experience coaching teachers.
Strong content knowledge, across multiple gradespans or content areas.
An appreciation for the continuing development of character and virtue in children and adults, alike.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Sensitivity to and capacity for leading students and colleagues from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
Spanish and/or French language proficiency (preferred).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; and ability to work well in a team.
Ability to build, monitor, and maintain systems that improve organizational efficiency.

Brilla provides equal employment opportunities for all applicants and employees.
The base pay range for this position is 100,000 - 123,806 per year. Pay may vary within the stated range, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus for some roles may be provided as part of the compensation package subject to executive leadership approval, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
