Position Summary:* *The Program Director is responsible for the management and supervision of the DYCD SONYC after School in Action Program, Summer Camp, Holiday Program, and provides support to all programs involving students and families in the Community School.

The setting of the Community School brings together many programs, stakeholders and partners in an effort to integrate services. This creates a highly interactive setting where staff members need to look beyond the scope of their individual programs and recognize their membership in the larger community. All staff must be ready to work collaboratively in partnership with others in the Community School.

Responsibilities:* *

  • Design and implement programming that meets the educational, social and emotional, and health needs of children in the school, including holiday and summer camp programming.

  • Ensure that the goals for all contracts related to after school and summer components are aligned with the School Age Division and partner school’s outcomes.

  • Responsible for meeting required indicators set out by grantors and ensuring all administrative details of the program are implemented.

  • Supervise Saturday programming.

  • Provide participants with quality activities in S.T.E.M., social emotional learning, nutrition & fitness, arts and enrichment, and academic support.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing strategies that will lead to achieving program outcomes.

  • Actively track the recruitment and retention of program participants.

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with the school administration, NYC Department of Health, Department of Youth & Community Development, Office of Food and Nutrition Services and other agencies as appropriate.

  • Assure the quality of the program through regular staff supervision, observations, evaluation, staff training and program development.

  • Supervise the day-to-day functions of the programming.

  • Develop relationships with parents using our Dual Capacity Engagement (training will be provided) which calls for frequent communication, parent involvement strategies such as parent classes, workshops, orientations and invitations to student expositions.

  • Participate in hiring of support and program staff with the Community School Director.

  • Provide staff with professional development.

  • Participate and represent the program during visits initiated/sponsored by the National Center for Community Schools.

  • Supports the Community School Director in developing and implementing an effective performance management system (developing and tracking outcomes, ensuring that data collection systems are maintained)

  • In the absence of the Community School Director or Assistant Community School Director, supports in overseeing the management of all programs and activities in the Community School.

  • Other relevant duties deemed necessary by the Community School Director or Assistant Community School Director.

Qualifications:* *

  • A minimum of High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education, or a related field preferred.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in college towards a degree program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s.)

  • Four to five years of after school programing, education or administrative experience is required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint.)

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.

  • A background in STEM is preferred.
