New York Edge is seeking a highly organized, passionate, and reliable individual to fill the role of School Support Attendance Specialist. In this part time role, you are responsible for supporting day school operations. Under the guidance and supervision of New York Edge, the School Support Attendance Specialist is to support the school base site in addressing attendance at all levels and in the prevention and intervention for chronic student absence. The Specialist will communicate with the parent/guardian by telephone, mail or in person home visits to address the attendance of students. The Specialist will also respond to telephone calls or other referrals or may go on location to intervene to support the student’s return to school.

Monday – Friday, 9am – 2pm (25 hours a week)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish and enforce clear expectations for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible leading to a more productive use of time and increased achievement

  • Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and classroom teachers.

  • Work closely with the Data Coordinator to conduct daily follow-up on student attendance such as absenteeism and Tardiness

  • Ensure accuracy of daily attendance & attendance reports

  • Work with the schools on all aspects of attendance including Attendance Improvement Plans

  • Participate in Home Visits as assigned

  • Serve as the attendance liaison between school and home

  • Participate in school-based Attendance Team meetings

  • Logs phone calls, letters home, home visits

  • Adheres to all Attendance Team protocols set by the Community School Director for Attendance

  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.

  • Work collaboratively with subject teachers to prepare an action plan for each student who receives additional supports and services

  • Assess student progress and communicate such to the appropriate parties

  • Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.

  • Other duties as related to the role


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.

  • Ability to collect and enter student attendance data and related information, including contributions to the Students Success Plans of attendance related issues.

  • Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!

  • Strong academic skills in Math and English. Knowledge of New York State Common Core standards and test preparation.

  • Demonstrated interest in the field of education, child development

  • Well organized, able to work both independently and collaboratively

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of direct experience working or volunteering with youth in a classroom, after school, or community based environment.

  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to employment history and criminal background check

  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required

The School Attendance Support Specialist will be required to report to their assigned school buildings and interact with students, staff, parents and school administration while following all local, state, and federal Covid-19 guidelines, policies and mandates.

At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
