NOTE: As a NYC contracted agency all positions at Good Shepherd Services fall under the NYC vaccine mandate. All employees, volunteers and interns must show proof of vaccination upon hire.

The Summer Activity Instructor for Arts & Crafts will create and implement classes encouraging students’ creativity through various types of art, i.e. painting, drawing, clay etc. and prepare students to present their work at the end of the summer.

REPORTS TO: Director of Youth Services

LOCATION: 876 Schenck Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11207

HOURS: Up to 8 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt,

Major Duties:

• Develop art curriculum (based on students’ interest and programmatic theme) encompassing an array of different aspects of the art industry; providing participants with experience and knowledge of various artistic professions. Curriculum will promote creativity, self-expression, mastery, and emotional and professional growth.

• Plan and implement a culminating event or project.

• Attend all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified.

• Provide direction, supervision and guidance at all times.

• Create a youth development, strength’s based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.

• Arrange setup, operation and clean up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.

• Document classes/workshop planning as required

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required; Bachelors degree preferred.

• Some college and experience with adolescents preferred.

• Experience and/or training relevant to the position required.

• Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Must have a commitment to work from a trauma-informed, strength-based and youth and family development perspective.
