SCO Family of Services Center for Family Life- Americorps at Sunset Park High School in Brooklyn, New York

CENTER FOR FAMILY LIFE, a nationally-recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking enthusiastic individuals to serve as AmeriCorps Workers to support youth engagement programs and promote student leadership development and career readiness. AmeriCorps members will work collaboratively with Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) staff and will gain experience in: working with youth ages 14-21 and the social work group model. Our ideal candidate has knowledge and a demonstrated interest in working with youth and will utilize a strengths-based approach to enrich the lives of youth, families and community.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Assist youth with the SYEP process including enrollment, orientations and Job Fair * Partner with SYEP staff to co-facilitate orientation workshops, emphasizing career readiness, social skills, and leadership development * Visit youth at their assigned worksites, interview participants to assess individual progress, assist in processing time sheets, and complete weekly written reports on the visit in a timely manner Perform office duties as necessary * Some Saturdays and evenings required SCO Family of Services is an equal employment opportunity employer.

  • Some college experience preferred
  • Experience working with youth on leadership development, service learning, and/or college exploration
  • Strong writing and time-management skills
  • Bilingual in English-Spanish or English-Chinese, a plus
  • NY State Drivers’ License, a plus
  • In addition, employees need to possess the following characteristics:
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, and a team player o Must have a sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and participants
  • Must possess a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and change; forge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their families
  • Must have the ability to set limits and to intervene appropriately; maintains helping role of practitioner at all times

Compensation/Benefits: Bi-Weekly Living Allowance that comes to $10,800 by completion of the 675-hour term Receive Educational Award, upon successful completion of program, for the following terms: 675 hour term - $2,321.00
