About the Role

The Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) is responsible for the overall business strategy and performance of the Merchandising, Product Development (PD), and Purchasing Teams. The CMO is a business driver and product visionary with imagination, creativity, and a track record of success demonstrating innovation and acumen. Closely partnering with the Chief Marketing & Analytics Officer, Creative Director, and Chief Product Officer to identify and prioritize opportunities and align an overall merchandising and purchasing strategy to achieve the strategic and financial goals of the business. The CMO is also charged with evaluating and streamlining our buying and product development processes, which will result in an effective and nimble organizational structure for the Merchandising, PD and Purchasing teams.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Alignment with Founder/CEO; Communicate the brand vision for the products and experiences we carry and develop and effectively pull together the multi-faceted characteristics of the overall assortment; define and execute the strategies and plans to achieve the brand vision for product characteristics, revenue, and profit.

  • Lead the Buying, Product Development, Experiences and Purchasing Teams in the planning coordination and procurement of inventory that will meet our business demands, financial goals and use our cash flow efficiently. Determine and develop the in-house manufacturing opportunity and plan.

  • Partner with the Creative Director and Team to effectively develop the creative, content and site presentations to support key merchandising initiatives, our product assortment and positively elevate our distinctions.

  • Key Strategic Partner with the Chief Marketing Officer, Creative Director, and Chief Product (Management) Officer, ensuring aligned strategies, plans, goals, and KPI/ROI measures and influencing changes that positively elevate our creative content and marketing distinctions.

  • Analyze and utilize product sales and consumer data to guide merchandising, purchasing, marketing, creative, Product Management strategies, and pricing.

  • Consistent and ongoing assessment of business development opportunities, the product category mix, creative content, and marketing collateral; identify new opportunities and downward trends and develop innovative merchandising and marketing initiatives for future growth.

  • Mentor, train, and develop the teams. Provide opportunities to demonstrate strengths and improve abilities. Provide support, feedback, and coaching to build future leaders.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Ambition and desire to take on expanded leadership responsibilities in the future.

  • Progressive track record of success and growth in responsibilities, P&L management and innovation.

  • Extensive experience in e-commerce or omni channel merchandising, marketing, business development, strategy and leadership roles.

  • Ability to cultivate cross-functional team collaboration, attract and develop top talent, and support the evolution of business processes, continuous improvement, growth, and profitability.

  • The anticipated starting base pay for this role is between $250,000 and $300,000. This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this role. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: experience, education, and role-based skills. This role is also eligible for a bonus, company options, generous health benefits, Paid Time Off, and more.
