About the role
The COO is an exceptional business leader, values-aligned, and reporting to our Founder and CEO in our Brooklyn, NY location. This individual will be passionate about building high-performance teams to drive innovation and growth and deliver operational excellence. The COO will bring to bear our substantial in-house expertise, from a homegrown WMS, innovative supply chain with independent makers (largely domestic), rapid inventory turnover, and an exciting peak season.
You will be responsible for more than 100 year-round team members and many times that number during our seasonal peak, as well as capable 3PL and transportation partners. You are a strategic problem solver with a deep understanding of e-commerce, capable of scaling operations, developing new capabilities, including the possibility of in-house manufacturing, and driving innovation.
Success in this role may lead to additional opportunities, including the potential for leadership of revenue-generating elements of the business. We’d love you to be with Uncommon Goods for the long term, as many of us have, to help lead the next generation of growth.
You are a strategic leader and problem solver, knowledgeable in e-commerce and business functions beyond operations.
You are passionate about delighting customers, team members, and our shareholders alike because you know how to balance operational excellence, a service leadership approach, and efficiency improvements with a proven track record of success facilitating dynamic organizational change and development.
You are knowledgeable and passionate about warehouse operations, customer service, transportation, technology and can also act as the second-in-command regarding high-level company initiatives and decision-making.
You thrive in a fast-paced (and we mean fast) environment, and your values are aligned with our company’s guiding principles.
As a leader, you:
Have cross-functional general management experience, strategic decision-making abilities, and expertise in warehouse operations, customer service, and transportation, ideally at the C-level, such as COO, President, or similar role.
Significant operating and strategy experience with a proven track record of delivering outstanding quality and efficiency.
You have the ability to lead all aspects of major projects, such as advances in our WMS, redesigning our warehouse and transportation network, and automation.
Are a change agent who will drive innovation through insight, persuasion, and determination.
Are a strong mentor with the ability to guide the team’s professional development-someone who celebrates success and is a motivator, as well as highly persuasive with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Are a detailed and entrepreneurial problem solver who encourages creativity and critical thinking.
Maintain an in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of industry developments, technology, and competitors.
Proven experience with budgeting, planning, P&L responsibilities, and contract negotiations
Experience managing and leading a large seasonal workforce is a plus.
