New York University Contract Faculty, General Engineering in Brooklyn, New York

NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, non-tenured, renewable faculty position in General Engineering at the level of Industry Assistant or Associate Professor, with a start date of August or September 1, 2023 . The initial appointment will be for two to three academic years.

The General Engineering Program manages the first-year engineering course EG 1004 Introduction to Engineering and Design which is required for all engineering majors. We are seeking a dedicated faculty member who can advance our students’ knowledge through prior experience. This course consists of weekly lectures, labs, and recitation sections and is team-taught by a group of faculty who are supported by a large team of teaching assistants. The Contract Faculty will teach the five recitation sections per semester in addition to supporting course operations.

The primary role of EG faculty is in guiding students through the course, orienting students to the field of engineering, improving technical communication skills, explaining the engineering design process, and introducing tools, resources, and terminology to first-year engineering students. EG 1004 faculty are expected to mentor student teams and provide guidance for open-ended semester-long design projects and hands-on laboratory experiments. The EG faculty will also assist with the operations of the course. This includes management and review of the teaching assistants; purchasing equipment and materials for projects and labs; designing course material and content; and maintaining or updating standards for course assessment and delivery.

  • Candidates should have a Ph.D. in engineering, engineering education, computer science, or related field

  • Candidate should have strong teaching experience, pedagogical training, or a record of industrial experience in these areas.

  • Candidates should have experience with engineering design and analysis, laboratory experiments, team project management, public speaking, and technical/scientific communication.

  • Candidates should have experience with curriculum development, managing a team of students, asset management, educational research, and best practices.

    Additional Information

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual 9-month base salary range for this position is $75,000- $105,000 for the Industry Assistant Professor rank and $90,000-$130,000 for the Industry Associate Professor rank.
