NOTE: As a NYC contracted agency all positions at Good Shepherd Services fall under the NYC vaccine mandate. All employees, volunteers and interns must show proof of vaccination upon hire.

REPORT TO: Senior Program Director and Division Director, Brooklyn Community Based Programs

LOCATION: 876 Schenck Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

HOURS: 35 Hours/Week, Exempt- Monday through Saturday, some evenings and Saturdays


Overall Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, coordination and supervision of after school, evening, Saturday and summer camp programs.

  • Responsible for creation of schedule for after school and summer camp programs, that meet all funder requirements

  • Ensure daily staff coverage.

  • Supervise Group Leaders, Program Aides, Instructors and interns.

  • In conjunction with Senior Program Director, responsible for the direct hiring, staff development and training of staff.

  • Responsible for recruitment and outreach of program participants

  • Assume responsibility for building oversite in the absence of the Senior Program Director including responding to specific maintenance and security concerns.

  • In conjunction with Senior Program Director, maintain strong partnerships with Man Up!, community co-locators and other organizations and entities that utilize the Center.

  • Provide on-site crisis intervention as needed.

  • Assist in the creation of a Center calendar

  • Work collaboratively with central office (HR, PEP, IT/Operations, Fiscal, GAP,); staff providing information as needed in a timely manner.

  • Attend agency wide trainings and meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Afterschool Program:

  • Ensure goals and requirements of public contracts and private grants are me

  • Rotate presence in all after-school activities ensuring quality implementation.

  • Work collaboratively with Educational Specialist in the implementation of project based curricula; surveys; assessments.

  • Conduct program outreach and coordinate enrollment and registration for all programs at the After-School Program

  • Participate in appropriate school-based teams or committees.

  • In conjunction with Senior Program Director, monitor budget, managing all expenditures related to program.

  • Ensure program compliance with Department of Health (DOH), DYCD and COA accreditation requirements

  • Ensure recreational equipment is in good working order, and that adequate supplies are maintained.

  • Assist in the facilitation of program activities and special events.

  • Responsible for timely input of data into DYCD database.

  • Must complete FDNY Certificate of Fitness (F-07)


  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years experience working in after school and/or summer camp programs.

  • Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.

  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.

  • Must be available for weekend and evening hours.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
