PAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. PAVE provides a K-8 experience that lays the foundation for a productive and choice-filled life. We build our students brick by brick, equipping them with the academic, social, and emotional skills that they need to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, overcomers and leaders in their communities.

PAVE educates 490 Kindergarten – 8th-grade scholars each school year. Across our student population, 82 percent of our students are eligible for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP); 17 percent receive special education services, and 10 percent are English Language Learners (ELL).

Opportunity SummaryPAVE Academy Red Hook seeks an ENL Teacher to work with students who are Emergent Bilinguals across our Kindergarten through 8th grade school. The ENL Teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing direct Emergent Bilingual instruction and collaborating/planning with teachers to provide English language support in other content areas (specifically in acquiring English Language speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills). The ENL Teacher will report to the Director of Student Support Services (K-8).

How You'll Contribute

  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices to create small group instructional strategies driven decision-making

  • Provide direct ENL instruction to small groups of students and/or provide inclusion support for ELA classes containing Emergent Bilinguals, based on case load

  • Advise teachers and provide professional development on modifying/accommodating curriculum for Emergent Bilinguals and share best practices to ensure high quality instruction

  • Build a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implementing the practices of Responsive Classroom

  • Coordinate the case management system of students who are being provided with ENL services and maintain student records

  • Evaluate, determine goals for, and track progress of individual Emergent Bilinguals, and communicate with faculty, students and families.

  • Support with the identification of ENL services

  • Utilize formal and informal assessment data to drive instruction and ensure student mastery of language standards/objectives

  • Create and maintain strong relationships with students and families

  • Administer diagnostic and state mandated assessments of Emergent Bilinguals including NYSITELL and NYSESLAT

  • Actively participate in grade-level meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development, including an annual summer institute

  • Accept ultimate responsibility for the academic progress of students, and work to actively overcome setbacks

  • Ensure that PAVE is in compliance with the requirements and regulations relating to Emergent Bilinguals

    What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree and NY ESL/TESOL certification preferred

  • The ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged

  • Relentless drive to set and achieve ambitious goals

  • Experience with the NYSESLAT and/or NYSITELL exams

  • Strong data tracking and analysis skills

  • An ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families and students

  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice

  • Spanish proficiency preferred but not required
