POSITION DETAILS

Kingsborough Community College is seeking a Director for Pre-Matriculation Programs (“Pre-Matriculation Director”) to support the development and implementation of a well-aligned strategy for student participation and success in the college’s Immersion and CUNY Start Programs.

Kingsborough’s Immersion Program provides short term (2-3 week) workshops for students who do not meet CUNY Proficiency in Math and/or English during our summer and winter modules with the goal of students gaining CUNY proficiency upon successful completion resulting in student ability to enroll in gateway courses their first semester. With strong success completion rates, the program currently serves approximately 450 math and 150 English students during each module.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Advisement, with integrated participation as a member of the Student Success Team, the Pre-Matriculation Director will provide overall strategic leadership focused on program management and instruction; including staff supervision, fiscal oversight and administrative operations, data collection and reporting, and will work with the Central Office to develop and standardize operations for program implementation and successful outcome attainment leading to stronger enrollment and success in gateway math and English course completion.

Specific responsibilities of the Director include, but are not limited to:

• Provide leadership and vision for the successful implementation of the CUNY Start and Immersion models’ goals and outcomes, including holistic recruitment of students to meet established targets

• Develop and manage program offerings for Immersion Workshops including scheduling, hiring, assignment and supervision of instructors/staff and technology needs

• Supervise the CUNY Start and Immersion teams, including day-to-day management of staff, participation in performance reviews, and communication of programs’ standard policies and program updates with a focus on creative problem-solving

• Lead CUNY Start advisors/staff in development, execution, and evaluation of student support processes, including Advisement Seminar content and delivery of workshops and work supporting student preparation for transition into first matriculated term

• Establish and maintain relationships with campus offices and academic departments (i.e. ASAP, Advisement Academies, College Discovery, Flex, Admissions, Testing, etc…) to support recruitment into programs and post completion transition into matriculated enrollment

• Manage the programs’ budgets; provide feedback on funding needs and participate in budget development and mid-year budget adjustments

• Collects and tracks data, leading to data informed decision making, focused on evaluation needs of the programs and provides analysis reports pertaining to recruitment, enrollment, course/workshop completion, and student success post program completion.

• Collaborate with CUNY Start University Director and Leadership team on development and implementation of standardized program operations, develop new initiatives as they align with campus priorities, goals, and capacity

• Collaborate with the CUNY Start curriculum and professional development team (math, English and advisement) to support successful delivery of the CUNY Start curriculum and the development of teachers and advisors in the program’s instructional model

• Work closely with the college’s Academic Affairs and Academic Departments to ensure that Immersion Workshop curricula prepares students for success in gateway course

• Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean for Advisement

• Some evening hours required to supervise courses/workshops offered

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

The preferred candidate will have:

· Master’s Degree in a related field (ex. Education, Math, English, Higher Education, Counseling/Social Work)

· Experience with implementing/understanding of curriculum and classroom management practices supporting academically underprepared and/or non-traditional students

· Ability to guide instructors and advisors to meet high expectations in creating engaging classroom experience for all students

· Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and inter-personal), including ability to build and maintain relationships across areas interconnected with pre-enrollment programs

· Demonstrated management and supervisory skills to guide staff to consistently meeting goals

· Budget oversight and planning experience

· Experience collecting and utilizing data to make data informed decisions in an academic setting with strong utilization of computer skills particularly use of Microsoft Office (Access and Excel)

· Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing academically underprepared students

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced education setting

· Experience with best practices in student support/success initiatives focused on closing academic preparedness and persistence gaps

· Proven record of building and maintaining relationships across various constituencies including students, staff, administration, and faculty
