PAVE Academy Charter School is a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY. PAVE provides a K-8 experience that lays the foundation for a productive and choice-filled life. We build our students brick by brick, equipping them with the academic, social, and emotional skills that they need to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, overcomers and leaders in their communities.

Opportunity Summary

PAVE Academy Charter School is looking for dedicated After School Counselors. Our programming is split into two blocks. Students each have a homeroom where they complete homework, read, have snacks, and do team-building activities. The other half of their time is spent in an enrichment course. The After School Counselor's primary responsibility is to lead homerooms, helping students master academic material and have fun in a safe, orderly environment. Depending on program needs, you may also spend time helping enrichment instructors in any way they need, or helping the Program Director with minor administrative tasks, like organizing attendance.

Programming runs Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 and Friday from 12:30 to 2:30. It includes all instructional days as outlined in the PAVE calendar (https://paveschools.org/wp-content/uploads/22-23-Academic-Calendar.pdf). In your application, please specify the days of the week and times that you want to work. Preference will be given to those that can commit to the most time per week. There will be one or two paid training workshops/retreats with time and dates TBD.

How You'll Contribute

  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our students

  • Plan and implement structured homeroom time

  • Prepare the learning environment, lessons, and necessary supplies for program activities

  • Assist students with homework and academic enhancement activities

  • Work cooperatively with other staff

  • Serve as a positive role model for participants

  • Maintain accurate program documentation (attendance, sign-in/out forms, behavior/incident/accident reports, as appropriate)

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and/or guardians

  • Adhere to all PAVE standards, expectations, and regulations

  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events

  • Other activities and duties as needed that address the ongoing health and well-being of our staff and members

  • Follow and maintain sanitary habits in accordance with CDC guidelines
