Police Athletic League Summer Group Leader in Brooklyn, New York
The Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that provides educational and recreational activities for children and young adults. Summer enrichment and learning experiences are crucial to the academic success and positive development of young people. PAL Summer Day Camps provide positive mentorship and supervision during high-risk summer months.
We are looking for a seasonal part-time Group Leader who will be responsible for leading small group instruction and activities in a summer camp setting. You will be responsible for the daily leadership of their designated group. This could include, but is not limited to; communication with parents, adherence to the daily schedule, leading trips, developing culminating events, etc.
This position is available at the Breukelen Cornerstone in Brooklyn, NY.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants by providing appropriate supervision and structure at all times.
Identify and facilitate age-appropriate, thematic based lesson plans and activities.
Participate in planning sessions and/or staff development sessions with the supervisor.
Complete necessary reports to monitor student progress and participation; Includes: daily attendance, maintaining student portfolios and pick-up sign-in sheets.
Plan and attend PAL culminating activities and events such as recitals, performances, fairs, and trips.
Communicate with parents and school administration of informing them of participants? progress.
Work collaboratively with all program staff.
Promote an inclusive, welcoming and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff and participants.
Create and maintain a positive, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of all participants.
Attend and actively participate in all required training.
Minimum H.S. diploma/GED.
College students preferred with major in Education or Child Psychology.
1 - 3 years of experience working with youth from 6 to 18 years old.
Must possess strong classroom management skills.
Must demonstrate the ability to develop lesson plans.
Must be responsible and organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be a team player.
Fluency in Spanish a plus.
