TITLE: TASC Instructor- Summer Intensive
REPORTS TO: PROGRAM director, Brooklyn A.C.E
LOCATION: 692 Blake, Brooklyn, New York 11207
HOURS: Up to 18 Hours/Week; Monday-Wednesday; 6-week position; Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: The TASC Instructor will facilitate all aspects of HSE and literacy instruction at a new comprehensive educational/vocational program targeting court-involved youth in the East New York section of Brooklyn. The instructor will also administer TABE placement testing and TASC assessments tests throughout the school year. The instructor provides a supportive environment for test preparation and personal growth.
Manage and prepare activities in all areas of the TASC Prep and literacy curriculum
Provide individual and group instruction for students
Lead peer tutors in instruction practices for student support
Work closely with the program Director to develop, monitor and implement math lesson plans in alignment with the TASC exam.
Work along with the ACE staff and assist in coordinating educational projects for the program.
Assist the Program Director with assessing individual student progress, as well as the efficacy of the curriculum.
Foster a youth development, strengths based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.
Function as a member of the Good Shepherd ACE team.
Provide timely statistical and narrative documentation as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
· Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required.
· Must have experience in whole group instruction, and individualization of material.
· Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
· Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.
· Must possess knowledge of the needs of students requiring remedial reading and math instruction.
· Must be willing to work from a strengths-based a restorative perspective
· Familiarity with/experience in the Criminal Justice system preferred
