Position Summary:
This position will be focused on research and education related to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in Biomedical Informatics (https://medicine.buffalo.edu/departments/biomedical-informatics.html) . As a tenure track position within the department of Biomedical Informatics ( BMI ), faculty are responsible for obtaining extramurally funded research programs, teaching in our Undergraduate, Masters’ and PhD programs and mentoring post-doctoral fellows.
This position also includes management of our programming staff as well as teaching our Jupyter Notebook skills building workshop each summer, involving a diverse group of contributors from the University at Buffalo and around the nation. This individual will work directly with Dr. Peter Elkin on the Biomedical Informatics program.
Essential Functions:
AI / Machine Learning Research
Develop learning modules using Jupyter Notebooks
Develop methods for automated data driven recruitment of patients to clinical trials
Use social media to encourage trial participation
Project Management
Teaching in our undergraduate and graduate educational programs

Minimum Qualifications:
MD, PhD or DO or equivalent in biomedical informatics, computer science, engineering or related field required
Experience in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work well in a small team of individuals
A publication record in machine learning
Preferred Qualifications:
An understanding of SMART , FHIR
An understanding of SNOMED CT, LOINC and RxNorm
Knowledge of Ontologies, the Web Ontology Language, automated reasoners and expert systems
A track record of grant funding
