Strategic Relationships is EY’s strategy and coordinated approach to strengthening relationships with C-suite, boards, and alumni of financial institutions. In EY’s Financial Services Organization (FSO), Strategic Relationships is comprised of five practices (Center for Executive Leadership, Center for Board Matters, Center for Alumni, Executive and Board Network, Client Experience) working in alignment to elevate EY’s brand and activate networks, data, insights and connection points to deliver long-term value for stakeholders, clients and account teams.

As an associate director on our Financial Services Center for Board Matters (FSO CBM) team you will directly support boards, committees and individual independent directors stay focused on the future of financial services - one that is stronger, fairer, and more sustainable — and to govern over their organizations effectively, efficiently, and strategically. You will help financial services (FS) directors navigate the complex global and domestic industry and sub-sector issues, and ask those challenging questions, to address the most complex boardroom issues.

The opportunity   

You will be a critical part of a team that drives the development of strategic, brand-enhancing programs designed to strengthen relationships and provide differentiated offerings to independent directors and C-level executives of financial services companies, spanning banking and capital markets, wealth and asset management, insurance, private equity and fintech. You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with FSO-wide and sub-sector leadership, senior subject matter advisors, and senior account partners to develop thought leadership, drive content rich events, support board education sessions, and enable our teams to build brand and relationships at the board level. You’ll have the opportunity to build your global network both internally and externally with some of the most senior leaders in the financial services industry.

*Your key responsibilities   *

You will be expected to develop and execute the Insurance and Wealth and Asset management sub-sector strategies by engaging with sector leadership and senior PPMDs. You will oversee the full end-to-end event lifecycle for sub-sector events, including working with EY offering leaders and sector leadership on board-level messaging, working with the creative team on materials development and develop high quality communications to the board and c-suite audience. You will drive the sub-sector thought-leadership strategy from drafting phase thru internal and external distribution. You will become the sub-sector main contact for the director community, including our retired partner alumni on FS boards. You’ll be expected to facilitate and present insights and thought leadership programs and develop and deliver guidance to leadership and account teams. You will support offerings with individual directors, committees or full boards through director onboarding, tailored educational sessions (often working with relevant offering leaders) and board/director relationship building. You will oversee and carry out a number of key FSO CBM operational initiatives, including developing and distributing quarterly FSO CBM internal/external newsletters, monitoring KPIs, promotional materials and playbooks. You will be expected to manage deliverable timelines, innovate existing programs and processes, provide guidance and training to team members and measure effort success.

  • Ability to collaborate with firm leadership, PPMDs and account teams in strategic planning activities and major initiatives.  

  • Adept at providing sophisticated insights and thought leadership to priority leaders, independent directors and C-suite clients

  • Ability to create and develop content and manage scope and schedule for moderate to complex projects for primarily external board and c-suite audiences

  • Ability to draft, obtain approval, and execute messaging through a variety of channels, including webcasts, podcasts, videos, social media, organic media, external leadership events, firmwide meetings, presentations, emails, intranet content and thought leadership

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Ability to present complex ideas and anticipate potential objections by leveraging experience, insight, and creativity to influence others to consider innovative solutions to challenges

  • Ability to be recognized as a respected professional in the industry by undertaking external-facing activities, including directly interacting with clients, facilitating insight and thought leadership programs and developing and delivering training 

  • Poise and confidence to professionally interact, cultivate and maintain strong relationships with independent directors, c-suite level clients, internal firm leadership and PPMD’s across the firm

  • Able to leverage available tools and technology to measure impact of key initiatives by analyzing measurement data to drive our strategy, advise to leadership, and report out impact of initiatives

  • Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgement in deciding scope, direction and focus   

  • Strength in guiding, training, mentoring and developing multidisciplinary, virtual teams  

*To qualify for the role, you must have  *

  • Minimum of 10 plus years of experience in business analysis, industry research, management consulting or business performance, advising clients in the financial services industry

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience, Master’s degree or postgraduate qualifications is an advantage  

  • Deep knowledge of the financial services industry and understanding multiple business drivers. Experience in the insurance and/or wealth and asset management sectors is an advantage

  • Confident to build a network of internal and external contacts to help shape point of view 

  • Proven ability working at a senior level in a fast-moving, client driven environment  

  • Succinct and structured oral and written communication and presentation skills 

  • Ability to take ownership and deliver highly complex, customized project simultaneously with a high degree of autonomy 

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications e.g. Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Power BI an advantage.
