About usNational Grid is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Distribution Planning group under Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM) in NY.Job PurposeThe Distribution Planning group will be responsible for traditional planning accountabilities as well as developing engineering solutions to novel and unique problems associated with meeting Clean Energy and Grid Modernization goalsKey Accountabilities* The Distribution Planning Manager will lead a team of highly skilled engineering professionals and will be responsible for ensuring the workload is delivered on time at a high level of quality by recruiting, hiring, developing engineering talent while fostering industry-wide subject matter experts and grooming future leadership.* The Manager will develop a diverse and interdisciplinary workforce through hiring, training, and hands on employee career development* Provide technical expertise, process support and policy guidance to ensure integration of distributed generation (DG) to the electric power system.* Uphold policies and regulations set in place for DG Interconnections per the NYSSIR by efficiently managing organizational workload in pursuit of the state EAM goals* Develop and tailor the capital investment plan to mitigate the system risks on reliability, resiliency sustainability and affordability, having an appreciation for budgeting and project management in a resource constrained environment.* Initiation and shepherding of related complex and non-complex capital projects to ensure adherence to company planning philosophies.* Conception, initiation and completion of tasks for PSC reporting (Summer Preparedness, Asset Condition Reports, T&D 15 Year Plans, DSIP, Reliability Report and Capital Investment Plans)* Provide support to other areas of National Grid such as Electric Strategy, Electric Operations, Regional Control Center, Substation Engineering, Distribution Design, Grid Mod Solutions, & Grid Mod Execution.* Distribution Planning supports Joint Utilities of NY efforts, and the manager will often lead one or several Joint Utilities Working GroupsSupervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required- Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel.- Strong leadership skills.Qualifications- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering froman ABET accredited engineering school.A Masters degree is highly desirable.- At least 6 years of experience in engineering (preferred) or operations.- Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards, and legislation- Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously- Understanding of utility regulation, including experience engaging state regulators and external stakeholder and developing regulatory strategy- Experience in change management, especially leading dynamic teams that regularly go through substantial responsibility changes- Actively builds and maintains a network of relationships, outside normal business contacts.- Takes personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly and non-defensivelycommunicates Company engineering expectations to monitor delivery of engineering projects and satisfaction.- Proactively makes changes to improve performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of processes;for example,challengeexisting engineering procedures and highlight areas for improvement.- Possesses ability to lead team members, setting goals for each individual to guide and mentor their development.- Is receptive to change and is willing to change ideas or opinions based on new information or contrary evidence.More InformationSalary$139,000- $163,000 a yearThis position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
