New York State Civil Service Environmental Engineering Technician 1 (Seasonal) in Buffalo, New York

Minimum Qualifications 1. Four years of experience performing engineering technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; or as a surveyor or drafter; OR 2. Graduation for high school (or possession of a high school equivalency diploma issued by a recognized education authority or a USAFI GED diploma high school level) AND one year of the experience described in option 1 above; OR 3. Graduation from a high school technical education program in technical aeronautics, technical architectural drafting and building construction; technical chemistry, industrial chemistry, technical electricity/electronics, technical mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems or computer circuitry; OR 4. Eighteen college semester credit hours in any combination of the following courses: engineering; such as civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, and/or sanitary; public health; environmental and/or engineering technology; drafting; mathematics; surveying; computer science, environmental science; and/or the natural and physical sciences. ## Duties Description The Region 9 EET 1 will participate in the following tasks: 1. Assistance in reviews of petroleum bulk storage applications, renewals, updates, tank and line test results, site assessments. Update UIS/D2 as needed. 2. Assistance in inspections of PBS, CBS, and MOSF facilities; track inspection follow up and responses from facilities. This may involve the removal of manhole covers (weighing up to 50 lbs). 3. Observation of UST/AST tank removals and installations. This requires the candidate use personal protection equipment, including a respirator. In addition the candidate will be required to complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. 4. Assist in preparations for public meetings and hearings, respond to requests from the public. 5. Coordination with other organizational units in the Department and maintenance of relationships with outside organizations and individuals. ## Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Must complete an annual Health and Safety Program including medical monitoring, fit testing, and 40 (or 8) hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Must have good communication and writing skills. MS Office computer skills including Word and Excel. This is a part-time, seasonal position through 3/31/2022. Program needs and/or funding will determine the actual termination date of the position which may be prior to the date indicated here.
