Job Description

Primary Hall Preparatory Charter School (PHPCS) was founded to provide the students and families on the East Side of Buffalo access to quality education. At the core of our mission is the belief that education at our school will provide strong foundational skills in literacy and mathematics that will equip all of our students for academic and personal success throughout their educational careers and beyond. As a Special Education Teacher with Primary Hall, you are charged with providing excellent instruction to students with disabilities using differentiated methods of instruction that are aligned with requirements including accommodations and modifications of student's Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Section 504 plans. As an advocate for diverse learners, you will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to meet student needs and promote academic achievement. With a team of like-minded educators, you will be supported to provide high quality instruction and grow as a teacher and leader.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates a calm, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment

  • Executes lesson plans and differentiates instruction on a daily basis to ensure the measurable success of all learners

  • Works collaboratively with the Student Supports Coordinator and general education teachers to implement all aspects of student IEPs

  • Assists in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional tools to benefit student growth and achievement

  • Provides push-in supports during literacy and math classes

  • Uses data to drive instruction by regularly analyzing data, studying student work, and implementing the highest leverage instructional strategies to maximize student achievement Consistently monitors student achievement through formal and informal assessment and uses results to plan for instruction

  • Manages student behavior and administer discipline according to Board policies, administrative regulations, and the Student Discipline Code of Conduct

  • Participates in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions

  • Regularly implements feedback with grace and urgency and with students' achievement in mind

  • Upholds a values-based approach to maintain a positive culture among students and staff

  • Builds strong relationships with parents and students, driving investment in school culture and academics

  • Implements academic interventions for students that are tailored specifically to their needs to increase student achievement

  • Implements behavioral interventions for students to increase learning time and decrease time spent out of the classroom

  • Participates and engages in weekly individual coaching meetings, weekly Professional Development, and Summer Professional Development with a positive attitude and growth mindset

  • Implements techniques in the classroom that have been learned during coaching meetings, Professional Development sessions, or in-the-moment feedback opportunities

  • Regularly grades student work and informs parents about student progress toward mastery on a regular basis

Key Qualifications & Competencies

  • Commitment to, belief in, and alignment with the mission of our school, our school's goals and educational philosophy, and commitment to our students, staff, and families

  • Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree at the time of employment (minimum average GPA of 2.75)

  • Valid New York State Certification in Special Education

  • 2 years teaching in an urban public school (traditional or charter) preferred but not required

  • Communicates well with others and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members

  • Possesses a strong growth mindset, with a willingness to take personal responsibility

  • Able to internalize and apply feedback with immediacy, dedication to effectiveness and excellence

  • Remains calm under pressure

  • Must be willing to work outside of traditional office hours if necessary or required as the role requires some attendance at school events outside of business hours

  • Holds unwavering high expectations for all students
